Vehicle Detail

This Jeep is titled as a 1952 CJ-3A, but has been converted to a 1945 MB Military Jeep. The vehicle underwent a complete restoration approximately 6 years ago. It runs and drives excellent, is extremely reliable and is probably the most fun vehicle you could ever own. Our family has enjoyed it every summer since it was finished, but need to sell it to help fund a business venture. When I purchased the jeep, it was in pretty poor condition. It was completely disassembled and rebuilt. The motor was replaced with the same type as original, a 134 ci L-head, 4 cyl engine. It still has the original oil bath ait filter. A brand new carburetor was installed approximately 2 years ago. The fuel pump, and water pump were replaced as well. The fuel tank does not apear to be original, but works, so was kept, and all new fuel lines were run with two inline filters. The frame was ground to bare metal and primered and painted with Rustoleum brush on, several coats. the frame is in outstanding shape. The electrical system was originally 6 volt, but converted to 12 volt. It has military blackout type lights in the front, that were converted to functional turn signals. Though not original, we put in a fuse box that features round type glass fuses. It has an original foot-start type starter switch. There is a non functional convoy blackout light mounted to the left front fender. The gauges work, with the exception of the fuel gauge. I also build a radio that will go with the Jeep. Its an AM/FM cassette player that was built in a metal box, to resemble some sort of radio equipment. It's totally self conmtained and plugs into a cigarette lighter tye outlet between the seats. Note in the pictures, the flip up headlights, a feature making it easier to work on the Jeep at night. Nice if you're under enemy fire. Charge! The T-90 transmission and Spicer Model 18 transfer case work great, and are the originals. The oil has been changed a few times since we've had it, and they do have a habit of dripping on the floor. Jeeps mark their territory. We also replaced the full time front hubs with lock-out type hubs. The body, by nearly all appearances looks like a 1945 MB WW2 military Jeep. The grille and windshield are from a 1945 MB, and I have the hood and fenders from the 1945, which appear very restorable, that will go with the Jeep. There is alot of filler in the Jeep, though in the time we've been running it, have had no issues with cracking, despite, running it on a few offroad trails and the Obstacle Course at the York, PA Jeep Show. (it also took second place in it's class at that show, the largest Jeep show on the east coast) The windshield has been replaced, and has the hand operated wipers. They work, but are no fun to rely on. The Jeep also features alot of reproduced canvas parts, all bought from Beechwood Canvas, the best suplier of military canvas. It has the canvas canopy, front and rear seats, side cushions, and headlight covers. The floor in the rear seat area is a bit pitted, but still much nicer than most original floors on Jeeps of this vintage. The floors in the front were replaced. I also installed an after market heater on the passenger side, behind the dash. The glove box lid, with all new ID plaques, is not functional, and bolted fast. The stenciling on the bumpers reflect those of a Jeep used on a WW2 air base. There are a few minor issues with the Jeep, that im happy to disclose. For one, if 1st or 2nd gear are held too long, for an extended period, a brief chirp noise occurs. I have never been able to find it, and my only guess is the throwout bearing, behind the clutch. It's rare, maybe once in a dozen rides do I hear it. It has decreased with time, and seems to cause no problems whatsoever. The driver side wiper blade needs to be replaced. One of the five rims has heavier pitting in the metal than the rest, though i rotate the tires, and it works very well. The canvas roof and tops do have a couple dirty spots. Ive never tried anything to clean them, besides soap and water. None, however, are very noticable. I mention them simply because they may be hard to see in the pictures. Again, because they may not show up in the pictures, there are a few minor scratches in the paint. I have some touch up cans that the purchaser can have. There is a row of studs along the top of the windshield fram that hold the front of the canvas roof. They fit into the frame pretty loosely, so i take them out when i remove the top. Never got to welding the holes closed and re tapping them. I suppose some type of epoxy could be used, i always just thought I'd get around to welding them. Also, there are one pair of body mounts, in fromt of the rear tires, that we never used. when someone repaired the body, they were eliminated, though they seem redundant and hasnt caused any problems. The choke knob is missing, replacements are available, pretty cheap. Payment must be cash or cashiers check upon pickup. The vehicle must be picked up at my location. There is also a notary in town that can take care of any transfer if necessary. Seller will pay for transfer fees. On Aug-19-10 at 13:50:57 PDT, seller added the following information: Thanks for the bids! The only other thing i'd like to mention is that i purposely tried to show pics of the worst of the jeep. I also tried to be as honest as possible in the description. Some people who know the jeep saw the ad, and think i was more unkind tho the jeep than it deserves. It is a great vehicle, I hope that still comes thruough with what i said..lol Just want to be upfront about everything.. On Aug-19-10 at 19:18:23 PDT, seller added the following information: To clarify someones question, this Jeep is NOT an original Army Jeep. The chassis and drivetrain are a civilian CJ-3A. It is, in its current state, nearly indistinguishable from a WWII model MB to most people. Also, the rear axle is the Dana 44, and the front is a Dana 25, both original to the CJ-3A.
