Vehicle Detail
I love this little 2-seater sports car - with its mid-engine and rear-wheel drive, it has been a lot of fun, and great on gas mileage. Unfortunately I don't need a car any time soon and it needs more time and money than I'm able to give right now, including passing smog (a new bolt-in catalytic converter is included with the car; I never got around to installing it). Would be perfect as a parts car or a fixer-upper (only needs a few things). Questions welcome: messages through ebay, gjemmott at gmail, or 1 760 822 9880. Pros: * Engine rebuilt recently 16,000 miles ago. Also replaced timing belt, clutch, and some hoses. * No 5th-gear pop-out! (a common transmission problem with first generation MR2s) * Brake master and slave cylinders replaced 5,500 miles ago * 2 new tires: Falken Ziex ze-912 5,500 miles ago * Runs well, goes fast, brakes well, fun car, gets good gas mileage Cons: - Failed smog - new catalytic converter (recommended for replacement) is included with car (currently registered PNO - planned non-operation) - Water pump is leaking, needs replacing (it's nice that it's not driven by the timing belt, though!) - Around 204,000 miles, spun left rear corner into a guardrail, repair shop says left rear strut is separated. Drives fine, but needs replacing before too long (two new rear shock absorbers quoted by local shop at $125 each) - Major imperfections are shown in photos, car is in decent shape, not great Other info: Professionally lowered an inch or two for better handling Regarding smog You can drive it away (I will get a one-day use permit) or arrange for shipping on or before August 17th. Alternatively, I can deliver on or before August 17 to San Marcos, Escondido, or Vista, CA for $25 above winning bid, elsewhere in San Diego North County for $50, farther is negotiable. Please contact me if you plan to pickup after August 17th would be handled by my father and is possible. Included with car: + Haynes automotive repair manual + New MagnaFlow bolt-in catalytic converter + extra set of premium brake pads + extra headlight assembly + receipts from all recent work (only fluid receipt from brake cylinder job, done at home) + smog reports with emissions numbers (at 201,944 and 203,270 miles) History: I am the third owner of this car. The original owner owned it until 2007 or so when my friend bought it. I bought it from him in late 2008 from a friend. He gave me records from the engine rebuild (commissioned by the previous owner) and I watched him replace the brake cylinders. It was not passing smog at the time of sale, but was registered through 2009. I meant to fix the smog issue and rear strut, but instead got an opportunity to cycle around Europe in summer of 2009. Then I moved to Italy and left the car with my parents, who registered it as non-operational while I was gone. Now I am back in the USA, and moving to Oakland, where I plan to not have a car.
