Vehicle Detail

I'm selling my 1973 Scout 2. I put a fiberglass body on it about 15 years ago. The Tub, front inner and outer fenders, lower grill, and upper tailgate are fiberglass. The doors, windshield, hood, roof, and lower tailgate are steel. I do have the fiberglass hood that will go with the scout. I put plywood down on the back cargo area to try and protect the fiberglass. I always meant to finish it but I got it running and on the road and other things in life always seemed to take precedence. Unfortunately I parked it in a damp garage and the frame has rusted severely and needs replaced. It has a 345 V8 with 4 speed manual. It's 4wd drive with a 2 speed transfer case. It runs but the gas tank has rusted through which requires me to hook it up to an external gas supply. I've been using my motorcycles gas tank. It can be used to get it on a trailer, but of course you will need your own gas tank to get it off. You will need to trailer or tow it home. If you have a good frame you could swap the body and make a full Scout. That is what I wanted to do but I'd like to buy a house and I have too many other toys to continue with this one. I stopped the auction because I found some rust in the steel bracket that is sandwiched in the fiberglass body. This way everyone will have a chance to see it before bidding. The bracket is used to bolt the lower tailgate to the fiberglass body. I thought about it when I was taking a picture of the body mounts you need to add when installing the fiberglass body. The inner part of the bracket where the tailgate bolts to the steel is still fairly strong. I can sit on and bounce up and down on the tailgate without noticing any give. The rust is mostly confined to the lower part of the bracket which runs from the bottom of the tailgate to the top. I would think you would want to at least remove as much rust as possible and then use some rust preventative to stop any more rust. The area is a little hard to get to so it will require some creative thinking to do it. The bracket is glued into the fiberglass. The pictures are taken lying on the ground behind the tires looking toward the taillights. I’ve also added a picture of the fiberglass hood that will go with the Scout . Please look at all the picture and contact me with any questions. More pictures here. Scout
