Vehicle Detail
Well, here she is… This is “Peggy”… a 1957 Chevrolet 2dr 210 coupe. I can’t believe I’m finally letting her go! Peggy is in unrestored , unmolested, original condition…. She was an amazing find. It’s one of those stories that might happen to you once in a lifetime, and I’m lucky it happened to me. She’s been a west coast car all her life , and get this … she’s been garaged since she was new! I am the 2nd owner. I purchased Peggy in Washington state from the original owner many years ago. The owner was 96 years old at the time and she had driven the car til she was 93. She was healthy and sharp as a tack, but they had eventually taken her license away after a routine eye test. Her husband had purchased the car brand new in 1958, and the car had spent its entire life in a small enclosed garage beside their 1940’s home. That’s where I found her. Peggy hadn’t been run in 3 years, but all it took was a fresh battery, and she fired right up. The only damage was a shallow dent in the door (I think passengers side – can’t remember). The original plastic was still on the seats, and the odometer had just turned 93,000 orig miles. The tires you see in the pics are the same ones I found on the car and they still have good tread. Everything worked … even the radio. All I did was give her a tune up, changed her oil and filter, and she purred like a kitten. I drove her the 120 miles to my home in Canada and put her straight into the garage, where she has spent every day that I have owned her as well. Like I said … it’s one of those stories that might happen to you once in a lifetime. I gave her that tune up all those years ago, and I really haven’t touched her since. I drive her 5 or 6 times each summer, (some years I didn’t drive her at all), and I’ve always kept her in an enclosed garage with a cover over her. She’s probably seen rain a couple times since I’ve owned her , but that’s about it. The odometer presently reads 105,000. (I was sad when it rolled over). Everything still works except the clock. She always starts easily, and she runs and handles beautifully… drives quiet and smooth… sometimes I can’t even tell she’s running. I’m always amazed at the airtight, sound tight interior feel when the doors and windows are closed. Just look at the cloth piping around the doors in the pics – amazing! As far as I know she’s never been in an accident, and the only sign of ‘tinkering’ I’ve found, is a small fiberglass repair done to the floor behind the driver’s seat. Must have been done by the original owner. About 12 years ago, I finally decided to have the dent in the door fixed, and at that time decided to give her a fresh coat of paint… the original robin’s egg blue. The painter was astounded at her condition. At that time, I added the Belair fin inserts. These were not original on the 210 model. She truly is a remarkable car in amazing original condition, but you need to keep in mind that this is an unrestored vehicle, so there are minor things that could be fixed. They were too minor for me to worry about, and I preferred just leaving her untouched... but the new owner may want to “cross all the t’s and dot the i’s”. I’ve tried to list all the imperfections I can think of... they are as follows…and they are very minor, but I want to mention everything I can think of… - Rear bumper lisence plate lens has a crack (pic avail) - Dr side rear fin corner has a small rivet hole on top (pic avail) - Pass side Front fender side spear has a small screw hole (pic avail) - Grill center piece has a crack line in the chrome (pic avail) - Driver’s door glass has 2 thin cracks (pic avail) - Headliner has some seam separation (pic avail) - Front seat plastic has a patch (to prevent from spreading) (see pic) (note - seats like new underneath) - Trunk lid doesn’t stay open by itself (the orig owner used a broom handle – I drive her so infrequently , it never bothered me – felt it gave her character) Through the years I’ve owned several classics, but Peggy’s definitely in the nicest shape of anything I’ve owned. She’s a head turner… she looks like she’s been restored. When I tell people she’s original, they’re always amazed. So why am I selling her? In a nutshell, I made a deal with my wife that I’d let her go. It was always my dream to own a 1957 chevy , and my dream came true. I’m sure I’ll be sorry someday, and to be honest, I’m secretly hoping she doesn’t sell so I can keep her a bit longer. With new cars costing $30,000 - $60,000, why not drive a classic for less. I believe she’s worth every penny and will be a great investment that continues to appreciate every year. If she does sell, I hope it will be to someone who will love her and baby her as much as I have. Perhaps your dream might come true too. Good luck and happy bidding. PS – I am located 75 miles from the US border just above WA state (Oroville WA 98844). I will be listing her locally as well so reserve the right to end the listing at any time in the event of a local buyer. Payment = $1000 (non-refundable) within 48 hours via Paypal or cash, and the balance within 10 days via cash or money order. The car will not be released for pick up until funds have cleared.
