Vehicle Detail
The strangest thing happened on the way home. I was towing this Lotus I had just bought and pulled in to the driveway. A mobile locksmith screeched to a halt and exclaimed, “I know a guy trying to sell a car just like this! Do you want his number?!” Chatman and I were feeling quite pleased with our purchase, so I ran on over and jotted down the number. It took a few calls, but soon I met with a tall, tan and tough character. He was a Cadillac guy. Actually he was a car guy and told me in no uncertain terms if I was over 6 feet tall I should have nothing to do with the little purple Lotus. Well, I am 6 ft tall and I have everything to do with the little Lotus. It was crouched down in the wild flowers when we found her, just my kind of tow out! We came to terms and loaded up our treasure. Wow. This little Lotus has 30,000 original miles. The man knew its history and it had been in a garage for 30 years. The paint has faded and the car spent a few years in the hot sun at his beautiful estate. The engine he said turned over, but with no spark, he couldn’t fire it up. Indeed a coil was hanging around the engine compartment in a haphazard temporary way. The door on the passenger side was also hanging around and we used a rope to tie it shut. This Lotus is in much better shape then the last one and I hope you enjoy the photos. The Lotus is in amazing original condition. There was an autocross plaque from 1976. This might have been about the last time the little car was on the road. The interior is a bit dinghy and will need your attention. The car rolls easily and the tires will hold air for shipping. The gearbox runs through the gears, however the clutch cable will need to be replaced. There is a box of bits to be sorted through and the trunk insert although not pictured is present and in good shape. The body is solid and the fiberglass shows no big cracks and I am pretty sure this purple is original because it’s everywhere. That’s got to be an unusual color. I happen to have a gallon of ppg purple metallic paint, but that’s going to be a separate deal. I think this Lotus will make a beautiful addition to any car collection and it looks very nice in my driveway. People ask about it all day long. The price is right and there is no reserve. Feel free to ask any questions. I have good shippers and can get this classic delivered straight to your door step. Thanks, DanOn Jul-19-10 at 17:55:28 PDT, seller added the following information: Update Thanks for all of your questions and observations. The Lotus appears to be a 4 spd with overdrive. I found the original owner's manual today and it says, "Twin Cam" on the front. And the book cover is purple!
