Vehicle Detail
Numbers matching 1969 E-Type fixed-head coupe, Series II. As confirmed by the Jaguar Heritage Certificate, this car still includes its original 4.2L straight-six engine and 4-speed transmission. It is still wearing its original colors: Primrose Yellow over a Black interior. The car was purchased new in California in 1969, remaining there until moved to the Washington D.C. area around 1996. Since then it has been in storage awaiting recommissioning. The car is accompanied by the original owner’s manual (car purchased new on July 19, 1969 by Ted R.) and many receipts. Car #1R25834 is in need of restoration. Even so, it is much better than many candidates. The car has never been restored, rewired, or rebuilt. It is substantially as it left the Jaguar factory on March 18, 1969. The car is in rather good shape mechanically speaking. The engine runs pretty well. The electrical system appears to be in good order. Most lights are working; the others I assume need bulbs. The fuse box is in great shape. The car is equipped with factory air conditioning, though this is not working. The fan is out of the heater core, but is included in the sale. The clutch was frozen when I bought the car a year ago, but is now free. Before freeing the clutch, I was able to drive the car in all gears, confirming the operation of the transmission. After freeing the clutch it has become apparent (through not engaging) that the car will likely need a new clutch. The clutch master and slave cylinders are new. As the the clutch fluid bottle. I replaced the gas tank with one in great condition from another E-Type. The brakes, including the parking brake, are in good order, always stopping the car fine. The car rolls freely. The mileage reads 12,562. Based on the accompanying receipts reflecting higher mileage, the car likely has 112,562.The car is equipped with the optional Turbo Disc steel wheels. The car will need most of an interior kit. The seats are in good shape; no rips or cracking. The door panels and trim around the quarter windows are in passable shape. The headliner is intact and not sagging, but has an even coating of dust. The dash is in good shape, including the gauges. The steering wheel will need refinishing, but probably not replacing. While the carpet and parcel shelf vinyl are gone, most trim pieces associated with these are included (e.g. finger pull lift for hatch floor). The body condition is above average for an E-type Jag. (This is the third E-type I’ve restored; the first I haven’t completed.) The usual areas of concern are solid: the transmission tunnel, the lower and upper rear bulkhead, the firewall, and the inner sills. The areas of significant rust include: the right hand side of the trunk floor, the right hand rear lower valance (area just behind passenger rear wheel), the driver’s footwell, and the front of the outer sill where it intersects the driver’s footwell. These are all rather small areas. All the other rust seems to be of a surface nature. Much of the dark coloration visible on the metal in the pictures (especially rear bulkheads, transmission tunnel, and passenger footwell) is glue from the carpet and vinyl. I would guess that the body has had a respray and includes some filler. I can find filler in the middle of the passenger door (must be a dent), the right hand headlight sugar scoop (filler or thick paint- cracking visible), and to one side of the rear hatch (seems thin). The rear glass is out of the hatch, but in good condition and included in the sale. The bonnet/hood is in great shape, with just a couple areas of surface rust. Most of the chrome on the car looks very good, with the front right hand being the exception. Visible in one of the pictures, the original body number was found written on the inside of the hatch panel, just as it left the the factory! Included in the sale is the original Jaguar document pouch with Jaguar logo on the front. In the pouch are the original “Operating Maintenance and Service Handbook”, the original “Passport to Service” booklet with information about the first purchaser, many receipts for routine work, and the data plate (I assume it rusted free of the engine compartment or was removed for a respray). The data plate matches the Jaguar Heritage Certificate and the components of the vehicle itself. It is a true numbers matching car. See a video of the car running and many more pictures at http://web.me.com/stratfordcompanies/1969_E-Type_FHC The winning bidder will need to provide a $500.00 deposit within 2 business days, with the balance being paid within 5 business days of the close of the auction.
