Vehicle Detail

This car has been a rather interesting project. I bought it last year for ~$1,400 from a man in the Boston, Mass. area who had planned to install an electric motor and batteries, then ditched the project. I towed it back to SC and (after clearing out several other VW projects) built a new engine to go back in the car. This engine has been built built to standard specs for a 1.8L, 8V "JH" engine. The cylinder head rebuild work was over $350 alone. Since the entire fuel system had been removed (including tank!), I took parts from another '87 Cabriolet that I parted out. In addition, after discovering some front end damage (undisclosed by prior owner), repairs were made including special work on the front motor mount, so that the engine could be properly installed. The prior owner had replaced steering rack boots and both axles. One axle has 90 MM hub and the other is 100 MM (not sure how he ended up with this arrangement). The clutch is new as is the water pump. I have installed the early 8V exhaust manifold (4-into-2) and downpipe for better performance and economy. The catalytic converter is empty which provides a slight "raspy" tone to the exhaust. The rest of the exhaust system is in nearly new condition. The wheels are GTi "Snowflakes" with nearly new Michelin MXV-GT4 "H" rated tires. There is a 5th wheel/tire but it does not fit in the "mini-spare" hole in the luggage compartment but is included in this sale. The interior is in very good condition with no tears anywhere in the seat fabric. I am still "tweeking" this car a little as I continue to find minor electrical issues that seem to be occurring due to the aborted "electrification" project by the prior owner. I did have to replace the fuse block to get the fuel pumps to run correctly. There are two small repairs on the top that, otherwise is in very good condition. I am only posting one picture at this time and, as you will see, this is a very sharp car. It is not perfect by any stretch of the imagination as it does have some body dings that aren't noticeable until you get close. The rear hatch paint is pealing for some reason but can be repainted to match the rest of the car if desired. I do have a gray convertible top cover that will go with the car. I will post additional pictures on my Facebook page. You can find me there as "Rob Rettew" and as "Beachphotographer". You will note that this picture is also in my Facebook pictures. I will create a new album for the additional pictures of this car. I will take specific pictures upon request as well. IMPORTANT NOTE: SERIOUS BIDDERS ONLY - Bidders with a feedback rating of less than 5 must contact me first or risk having their bid canceled. Basically, I need to know that you are serious. I am starting the bidding at at $1,000 with no reserve so the highest bid wins. I expect a deposit arrangement, and pick up plans to be made within 48 hours of auction close. Final payment and pick up in no more than 7 days from auction close unless prior arrangements and agreement with me are made. NO EXCEPTIONS. Shipping is entirely the responsibility of the buyer. I do have a tow dolly and may be willing to negotiate a delivery if its not too far for a fee, also to be negotiated. JULY 2 UPDATE: I have just uploaded some pictures here and on my Facebook page.
