Vehicle Detail
selling my 1971 VW bus, i have been restoring for almost 3 years. i will start from the beginning. i bought it from the original owner in 2007, who had not driven in years, bought new at VW of Charleston WV, and has had it parked on concrete driveway. first of all i started on the body, which had the usual bad spots for these buses. replaced with swedish made replacement panels instead of japanese. first was inner and outer rocker panels on both sides, and then both rear taillight tubs, battery box, and lower quarter patches front and rear on both rear quarters, all nicely fitted, then only bondo in bus was just to cover weld seems. removed windshield, had a little fog in it, and when painted with basecoat clearcoat, and have paint codes available, after painting which i i gve a 9 out of 10, installed new windshild rubber, new windshield, new wiper squirters, new wipers, really turned out nice, replaced a few lenses that had cracks. now the mechanical, the engine was tight so the old man said he had it regularly maintained at VW, so i replaced belt, put in new battery, all new fuel lines, fuel pump, took original solex 34 carb. to specialist, had it rebuilt, flushed fuel tank, new plugs, motor runs nice. then went to brake system and all brakes and calipers were still good and working properly, then replaced all 4 shocks, and greased all fitting, and floorboards are in good condition, and drives down the road straight and true, but i have only driven locally a few times. the interior is the best part, to see how a 39 year bus was in this kind of condition, all original door buzzers work, original saphireIV am radio still plays like new, the seats were not too bad just the corner on drivers side seat was seperated, so i thought for a driver the custom fit sheepskin seat covers were a better option for comfort, even though they were more exspensive than the original covers. 1st bench seat back at the top corner next to window has a dryed out tear spot, can see from pics, but the mats are in great shape, the headliner is still original, and amazing. have a extra tire and wheel, and also bought a heater/defroster to plug in to cig. lighter. i will throw in. this bus is not a show bus but its about the best driver u can find around, and solid the only reason i am selling, which is killing me, is my ex wife took me back to court, and basically selling for that reason only, any questions feel free to ask, my name is kevin, and alot of love has gone into this bus. good luck bidding
