Gold pearl visible along the fender and door, just as the sun highlights the body lines.) Description of Specific Product for Sale - (1) 1993 Mazda RX-7 twin turbo automobile with "Touring" package (sunroof, Bose stereo, fog lights, etc.) + New Custom tri-coat House of Kolor Vintage Red paint with gold pearl highlights, buffed to show quality gloss (~$5000!) + Engine rebuilt ~7500miles ago by KD Rotary in New Tripoli, PA (~$4750!) + Ported engine with cooling/reliability mods (oil pill removed, AST deleted... etc. these fix common failure points) + New 2mm factory apex seals and springs (even though the old parts appeared ok, we took no chances or shortcuts) + Modified twin turbos (ported and stress relieved wastegate, etc.) + Twin plug ignition conversion (trailing deleted by KD Rotary to improve reliability/performance) + J&S / KD Rotary anti-detonation device (this $485 part is cheap insurance against a $4000 engine repair!) + Tie-wrapped silicon vacuum lines (much more reliable than stock rubber lines!) + Racing silicon intake hoses and stainless steel clamps (much more reliable than stock rubber hoses!) + Stainless steel downpipe + Bosch racing fuel pump (-044?) + KD-tuned fuel and ignition maps as well as turbo wastegate duty cycle and electrical accessories + Replaced hoses, belts, fuel filter, etc. + Bonez 9.5lb lightweight aluminum flywheel with street/track clutch with sprung hub (no chatters; we insisted on street drivability) + Apexi PowerFC programmable stand-alone engine management system + Apexi PFC Commander (+$1000) + New Redline fluids (Water Wetter, MTL90, 10W40) + Koyo racing aluminum radiator (forever ensures no overheating or leaking plastic stock radiator end-tanks, $380) + New OEM radiator fans and shroud + Rear suspension pillow bearings replaced 3000miles ago (wonderfully tight, no rattle suspension, ~$850!) + Widefoot Racing / David Breslau gas pedal adapter + Air conditioning converted to R134A (quite cold, works great, no leaks) + Custom air intake system ("stock appearing" passes police visual inspection, but is actually a hidden ram-air system using the top half of the stock parts "for show" -- dramatically lowers turbo lag and improves turbo and IC efficiency for approx. +5hp @ 0mph, +20hp @ 100mph. K&N air filter with lifetime warranty. We'll post a write-up + better pix on the RX-7 forums someday...) + New steering rack boot & tie rod end (boot had split on one side so we replaced the one side. The other side is fine with no cracks, nor bearing play.) + New front sway bar end links + Power steering pump replaced @ 90k + New fuel pressure gauge (0-100psi, hidden within engine bay) + New cooling fans, motors and shroud ($600+) + Polished aluminum chassis cross-brace + Optima battery (replaced ~5000miles ago @ $125) + New ignition switch (failed in one of our other RX-7s, so this was preventative maintenance -- we still have the remaining used "good" switch) + New custom floor mats + Silver Star headlight bulbs + Porterfield (?) street/track brake pads + Motul 600 fluid + Dunlop SP Sport FM901 ultra high performance summer tires (we recently swapped these onto the same wheels shown, as the tires in the photos were a mixed set of Yoko's and BFGoodrich's and we wanted a matching set to go with the car) - Clean, clear Virginia title and title history - New copy of clean CARFAX (no accident history or weird title business) - New state inspection (just performed in late March, 2010) - (1) extra set of keys - (1) folder of vehicle service / maintenance, inspection records and warranty (~50 pages) as well as all related aftermarket product manuals / documentation we have Note: New = new within past 3000miles or so Car weighs approx. 50 lbs less than stock and makes 340+hp @ 14psi, but should be happy @ 16psi (360+hp) -- we just don't push it. More info available at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_RX-7#Third_generation Condition: - Very good to excellent. Needs nothing. Buy it, take a week vacation and drive it 3000miles back to California. We would have better washed and cleaned the car if it had been warmer outside when we took the photos, yet it still looks great. - Garaged for the 8 years we've owned it and I believe the same for the prior owner. Non-smoker (both us and it). - Low mileage vehicle (~6000miles/year) rarely saw inclement weather. Mileage may increase slightly if I have to show it to prospective buyers. - Southern car lived all of its life in the South (California, Texas, the Carolinas and Virginia), so it has minimal rust / corrosion - Accident free although it suffered a few scrapes and rock chips prior to the repaint, no chassis work has ever been performed on the car, nor needed. We believe every body panel on the car is original. Truly, this is a wonderful car -- it will be missed, but we have too many toys and too little space. We've owned (7) rotary-powered vehicles over the past 20 years, including (5) 1993 RX-7's similar to this one. This car has had an extended warranty until recently (expired at 100,000miles), so we've never skimped on its maintenance or parts replacement. There are less expensive RX-7's available on eBay and elsewhere, but we would be surprised to find one in equal or better condition for less. If it doesn't sell, we'll sell something else -- we currently own 11 sports cars, including two other 1993 RX-7's -- we really didn't need three, though it pains us to let any of them go. If we kept the car, I think the only thing we would do to improve it would be to replace the gear shifter bushings. They are original and loose, so that the gear shift knob has some play in it side to side, backwards and forwards. We've never missed a shift because of it and they do not affect the drivability of the car. These are inexpensive parts and low labor (DIY project), but have had many other, more pressing, projects. Although the owner is a high-performance driving school (HPDS) instructor, including for the Mazda Sportscar Club of Washington D.C. (http://www.MSCW.com) and Mazda Driving Associates (http://www.mazdadrivers.com/), this car has only once seen the track (http://www.virclub.com) many years ago (2003?) and was only "exercised" in a slow run group, not abused. Comparative Pricing: This item is one-of-a-kind. Forget Blue Book. Common prices for similar condition RX-7's range from $13,000 - $18,000. Feel free to ask how we determined this price. (Sadly, new eBay policies do not permit posting links to this referential material.) Original Product Features / Specifications Overview: The third and final generation of the RX-7, FD (with FD3S for the JDM and JM1FD for the USA VIN), was an outright, no-compromise sports car by Japanese standards. It featured an aerodynamic, elegant-looking body design (a testament to its nearly 11-year lifespan). Its 13B-REW engine was the first-ever mass-produced sequential twin-turbocharger system to export from Japan, boosting power to 255hp (188 kW). Series 6 (1992–1995) was exported throughout the world and had the highest sales. In Japan, Mazda sold the RX-7 through its Efini brand as the Efini RX-7. Only the 1993–1995 model years were sold in the U.S. and Canada. The FD RX-7 was Motor Trend's Import\Domestic Car of the Year. When Playboy magazine first reviewed the FD RX-7 in 1993, they tested it in the same issue as the [then] new Dodge Viper. In that issue, Playboy declared the RX-7 to be the better of the two cars. It went on to win Playboy's Car of the Year for 1993. The FD RX-7 also made Car and Driver magazine's Ten Best list for 1993 through 1995, for every year in which it was sold state-side. June, 2007 Road&Track magazine proclaimed "The ace in Mazda's sleeve is the RX-7, a car... touted as the purest, most exhilarating sports car in the world." The sequential twin turbocharged system was a very complex piece of engineering, developed with the aid of Hitachi and previously used on the domestic Cosmo series (JC Cosmo=90–95). The system was composed of two small turbochargers, one to provide torque at low RPM. The 2nd unit was on standby until the upper half of the rpm range during full throttle acceleration. The first turbocharger provided 10 psi (69 kPa) of boost from 1800 rpm, and the 2nd turbocharger was activated at 4000 rpm and maintained the same 10 psi. The changeover process, between 3500 rpm and 4000 rpm, provided 8 psi (55 kPa), was incredibly smooth, and provided linear acceleration and a very wide torque curve throughout the entire rev range. Handling in the FD was regarded as world-class, and it is still regarded as being one of the finest handling and best balanced cars of all time. The continued use of the front-midship engine and drivetrain layout, combined with an 50:50 front-rear weight distribution ratio and low center of gravity made the FD a very competent car at the limits. In North America, three models were offered; the "Base", the Touring, and the R models. The Touring FD included a sunroof, leather seats, a complex Bose "Acoustic Wave" premium sound system and cruise control. Features: Body style: 2-door sports coupe Wheelbase: 95.5 in (2426 mm) Length: 168.5 in (4280 mm) Width: 68.9 in (1750 mm) Height: 48.4 in (1229 mm) Weight: ~2850lbs curb Additional Photos of Exact Items on Auction (Apexi PowerFC Commander shown above mounted to bracket that slides into air conditioning vent. This is easily removed and stored in the glove compartment box.) (Just above the radiator, inside the nose of the car, is the only visual evidence of the ram-air intake -- a scoop that feeds and pressurizes a modified OEM airbox. Unlike the OEM design, this does not draw cold air away from the intercooler, improving both intake and IC flow for less turbo lag and lower intake charge temperatures.)
