Vehicle Detail
This is a really nice original 1952 Cadillac Coupe DeVille I bought at an estate sale last month. I was told that the car was a two owners since new. The engine was rebuilt about 3000 miles ago and runs great. It is the 331 Cadillac motor with a 4 barrel carburetor. I checked the numbers and the engine is a 1951, 75 series motor. The engine number starts with 5175...... That much I know about Cadillacs. Let me describe the areas of the car.... Mechanics.... The engine is perfect. Starts in a couple of revolutions and runs quiet. No leaks. No noises. No problems. It is flawless and from the looks of it, it is fresh. The transmission drops right in to gear either forward or reverse. A little hard shifting in to 3rd but I think they all did that. It is the 4 speed Hydromatic. No leaks. The rear end is quiet. The steering and brakes are extremely nice. The car drives as it should and stops fine. The car has been changed to the 8 volt system. I added new wheel cylinders, serviced the transmission, changed the engine oil and a complete tune. Cooling system is fine. I put brand new tires on it today. The exhaust is about 3 years old. Very quiet. The air cleaner is missing. I see these here on ebay from time to time. Body.... Really, really straight. One of the nicest bodies I have seen on a car 57 years old. The frame and the rocker panels are perfect. There is a little rust on the bottom of the right side quarter panel in front of the wheel. Thats it. Floors are 100% solid as is the trunk. The biggest issue with the body is the glass. Both rear 1/4 windows are missing their lifts. The owner had taken the glass out to replate the frames and never installed them. In the trunk are the re-plated frames with no glass. All the back glass and the windshield are very nice. This area needs work. Interior.... The interior was redone sometime in the 70's and needs redoing. It is vinyl and in the wrong pattern. There are pieces missing such as the right side door panel and 1/4 interior panels. These are the same for the Coupe and the Convertible. Shouldn't be too hard to find. Synopsis.... A really nice old daily driver that needs some restoration. A super California body and a car that has never been apart. Use it for a driver and restore as you go or do the whole car. The high points are the mechanics and the body condition. The low point is the interior. It has the power windows and seat. Wonderbar radio. Fog lights. Needs nothing mechanically. This is the 50th year anniversary model. Hollywood On Jun-22-10 at 18:02:46 PDT, seller added the following information: Adding a little more to the ad. I went over the today and this is what I found. The body very straight as I said but there are a couple dents in it. On top of the front fenders there are three dents where the corners of the hood had been layed on them prior to installation when the motor was rebuilt. Two are about the size of your thumbnail and the third about 3 inches long and a half inch wide. On the right door their is a ding about the size of your thumb. On the hood their is a ding about the size of a dime next to the hinge area. In a body shop, probably about an hour or two repair. Not a big deal but worth noting. All the lights work but the headlight wiring harness is in need of replacing. Pretty frayed and being clothe covered, the years have taken their toll. The oil light and the fuel gauge work. The car was originally an olive green color and was painted black in the 70's when the inerior was done. LAST... The grill was replated when the car was painted and the center bar is pealing. I was at a swap meet last week and found a really nice original stainless grill. Straight and shiney. That is included with the car. The areas under the headlight need re-plating. Korea chrome. Thank you.
