Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is my 2004 Mazda "Speed" edition of the Miata. This is the 1.8L L4 FI DOHC 16V engine, coupled with Mazda's 6 speed transmission, in the "convertible" package. For those of you who aren't familiar with the "Speed" version of the Miata, it's simply a more sports car oriented version. It has the larger turbo charged engine, a slightly beefier frame and body, bigger wheels and tires, etc. It really is a "pocket rocket" so to speak. They took the popular "Miata" and created a fire breather, called the "Speed" version. This is that vehicle. I bought this car in 2007, and I am only the second owner. The original owner kept the car in a climate controlled garage, and only used it as his "fun car", which is why it only had 16,000 miles on it the day I bought it. As you can imagine it was "perfect". I live in Sarasota, and work in Sarasota, and figured that the Speed was a fun car to scoot around in. It is very very quick, handles like a go kart, and if simply a "hoot" to drive. With the soft top, you have the vest of both worlds. Put the top down on a sunny day and it's an open air experience. If the weather sours, pull the top up, hit the two clips and you're weather proof. As I am writing this ad, the car now has 42,000 miles on it. The car has a manual 6 speed transmission, and the clutch is one of the smoothest I've ever used. It doesn't grab, lurch or slip, it's simply "the way it should be". The vehicle has virtually all the options that were available for it at the time it was built. Along with standards such as power steering, air, etc, it has several very nice "options" on it. All the incidentals work perfectly. (lights, electric windows, etc etc etc) The Bose sound system is flawless, and produces an incredible sound stage, whether the top is "up, or down". The tires are in excellent shape, and overall, I'd call the overall condition "Very Very good". Okay, so why not "excellent?" In all reality it is excellent, but the purists out there might not like the idea that the right front fender and the passenger door had to be repainted. According to Kelly blue book, you can't call a car "excellent" if it's had paint applied. So, let's say "very very good". It seems that one evening I pulled over to the side of the road, not realizing there was one of those stupid drainage ditches right along side the road, and the car sort of half slid down the ditch. The right fender and the passenger door got dented up, and had to be repaired and painted. It was a cosmetic damage, there was nothing severe like a frame damage or anything of the sort. So, being that the fender and door had to have dents fixed, and painted... I can't call the car perfect or "excellent". But it's VERY VERY good. I think you'd need to be a body man to detect where the paint was applied, because I can't. Because it is a daily driver, there's a few of the usual road rash nicks up on the front bumper from the occasional rock that gets tossed up at you from the car ahead, but there is nothing nasty anywhere. In fact for a 6 year old car...it's better than average, as I too keep it in a garage when not in use. The Interior is spotless. I am a non smoker, so there are no odors of any kind. Except for maybe some Siesta Key sand you might find here and there after a day at the beach, it's a pretty perfect interior. It starts and runs perfectly. We have never had to do any repair of any kind to the engine. It has absolutely no play in the steering what so ever, and tracks perfectly straight. It doesn't pull or favor any side, it simply goes where you point it. We have religiously changed the oil between 3000 and 3500 miles since we bought it. I pulled the CARFAX for this car on April 30, just so everyone knows the history of the car. I will give you a printed version of it if you buy it. The carfax is perfectly clean, no issues what so ever. Okay, so why am I selling it? My father just donated his 4 wheel drive Dodge Dakota to me, as he bought a new truck. I can't afford to keep both, and the truck will be more useful to me than the Miata. So, I have decided to put it up for sale. Frankly I don't want to see it go, it's been the best car I've ever owned. But it is my best option, so "go" it must. I still owe a fair amount on the car. As you know book value on these is very high, since it's something of a "rare" car. They didn't make too many of the Miata's in the "Speed" edition. According to Kelly's Blue Book, this car in "excellent" condition should privately sell for $13,140. In "Good" condition, it should sell for $12,390 In just "Fair" condition, it should sell for $11,440 I would like to make this happen pretty quickly, as my "new truck" is already sitting in my yard. I won't give it away, but I think that if I price it aggressively it should go quickly. I have it about as "aggressive" as I can get.
