Vehicle Detail
1948 Super Deluxe Ford 2-Door Coupe I acquired this 3 years ago from a family member who had restored and owned this car some 30 years ago. The paint on this car is 25 years old. This car has been continuously stored in inside environments since starting in Alaska over 30 years ago and most recently in Missouri. Since I have owned the coupe it has taken local awards in its class. This was not a body off restoration. The car is mostly original, only deviated from original for maintenance and repair ease. The car starts immediately hot or cold, shifts good, steers good, and stops firmly and straight. The good stuff · 6-Volt positive ground system is original and charges fine. No 12-volt conversion on this car. · Battery holds charge for months, nothing draws on battery when shut off. · Original vacuum wipers work. · Speedometer/odometer work- shows 36,xxx miles, true miles are unknown · Flathead V-8, runs smooth and quiet and does not smoke · Fuel and Batt gages are original and work · All lights, headlights hi-lo, turn signals, brake lights, tail lights all work. · This car passes Missouri Safety Inspections and is currently licensed. · Brake wheel cylinders, master cylinder are all freshly rebuilt and in good working condition. The bad stuff · V-8 is not original, it came out of a ‘53 Ford pick up. I found this to be true as plug wires, radiator hoses, location of distributor matches ‘53 Ford application repair manuals. So for tune-ups, ignition, timing, carb adjustments and the like follow ‘53 specs. · Heater is hooked up and works, however fan does not work. · Clock does not work. · Radio is there in dash but does not work. · Original oil pressure gage does not work, believe the problem is in sending unit as I can get the gage to respond to a 6-V feed. An aftermarket oil gage tells you what you need to know though. · No spare or jack, spare mount bracket is there though. · Tires ride VERY rough. This car needs new tires. Tires hold air and have good tread, but are as smooth as washboard road. · The correct shocks are on the car and worn out. Should be replaced or rebuilt. · The dress up spotlights and fog lamps look good, but are not wired. Could be made functional. · Passenger side window is cracked. Solid not falling apart, available online @ Macs Auto parts. I usually drive in warm weather and the window is down. Never bothered me. · Electric fuel pump installed bypass original mechanical pump. Original pump inplace. Serious buyers should only bid. Please come look and drive car ahead of bidding. This is a nice car. I am representing this car as fairly as I can. This is not a body off concours restored car. It’s more than a survivor though. A new set of tires and shocks and this car will drive like new. New for 1948 that is! Please email with questions.
