Vehicle Detail
This is the 1993 Allante, the only year with the Northstar engine. This car was $72,000 new. I bought it in 2004 from the original owner. It had 27,000 miles at the time, I paid $21,111--on Ebay. The first owner was a car collector who literally kept it in a warehouse. It was mint. I am the second owner and have put 46,685 interstate miles on it (from my home in Little Rock, Arkansas). It has been garaged almost all of its days. Maintenance during my ownership: 1) The Michelins on it now have less than 6,000 miles on them --see photos, 2) I upgraded the coolant system to non-CFC coolant, 3) I replaced the electric motor for window in driver's door, 4) Oil, oil filer and air filter have been replaced more frequently than recommended, 5) replaced one of the electric motors controlling the cloth top. Otherwise, it has not needed anything but TLC. What is original and working on this car: *Engine (73,795 actual miles; Carfax report reflects clerical error from state revenue dept which I am attempting to get corrected now.) *Paint, all chrome, all glass *Convertible top (this car is the most desirable color combination: pearl red paint and tan leather interior. The carpet is also original the fully-carpeted trunk *All electronics that I have used are working as the day it rolled off the assembly line: steering control, windows, A/C, automatic headlight controls, wipers, etc. I have used radio, but not CD or cassette. *Onboard computer: continuous instant MPG, average MPG for trip, Miles driven per trip, etc. *Climate control This Allante turns heads, runs with the best of them. You can drive it home to any point in North America. I know of no reason you could not do so with complete satisfaction. Fine Print: 1) front brakes work okay, but there is some shimmy when braking, which I've been told means the brake rotors need to be turned. 2) The convertible top needs to be adjusted before it is folded down. If you know Allantes, you know this needs to be done periodically Some rain gets in as it is, so this needs to be done soon. All of the top mechanism worked perfectly the last time I put the top down. 3) A dealer who examined it recently told me that there is a Freon leak, so that needs to be checked out and I'm sure it needs to be charged with Freon. 4) The gas cap cover (flap over gas fill) is present, but not attached. It's in the trunk. there is a crack in the hinge, so it must be machined (I'm told) to be reattached. 5) The only flaw in the finish (beyond perhaps a half-dozen tiny paint pits) is a 3 inch wide by 2 inch tall by perhaps half an inch deep dent in the passenger door. That was in the car when I bought it, the paint isn't cracked or scuffed there so I left it alone. 6) The leather is in remarkably fine shape for the car's age, but shows some discoloration here and there. I'm told a good leather shop could bring it back to near-new, but I haven't looked into it.
