The XLR's chassis, structure, and composite-plastic body panels are similar to the Chevrolet Corvette's, but XLR has unique styling, a power-retractable hardtop, and different suspension tuning. Its V8, a 320-hp version of Cadillac's 4.6-liter Northstar, is also different. The sole transmission is a 5-speed automatic with manual shift gate. An antiskid/traction-control system is standard, as is GM's Magnetic Ride Control, which automatically adjusts suspension firmness based on the road surface. XLR comes with heated/cooled leather seats, wood interior trim, and side airbags covering head and torso. A 7-inch dashboard screen displays navigation and audio functions and plays video DVDs with the transmission in Park.
