Vehicle Detail
This is a 1962 Jeep CJ5 made by Willys. I have had this jeep since 2001 and it started out as a plow jeep for the winter. I have since done extensive work on the body and mechanicals to get it in the shape it is now. I live 5 miles from work and would have no problems driving this every day to work if needed. I would tow it for long distances though due to the low gearing. The things I have done to the jeep Rebuilt engine and bored it .040" over and installed new over-sized pistons. New crank/cam bearings, new guides and seals, ground the valves and seats. new gaskets on the whole engine. Put new seals on the front Dana 25 axle. Lockout hubs are not installed, but I do have a set of Warn Hubs for the jeep that work. New seals on the rear Dana 44 axle. Front and rear axles have a 5.38 gear ratio-stock gearing I upgraded to a later model jeep 10" self adjusting drum brakes on the front axle Rear axle has stock 9" manual adjusting brakes. All brake drums and shoes are new/good shape. All brake lines were put on jeep about 5 years ago. The jeep has the stock single chamber master cylinder. I have a bracket and dual chamber mc from a 69 cj5 that can be installed fairly easily to split the front and rear brakes that will go with if wanted. T-90 3 speed non-synchronized 1st trans. I went thru and checked the trans out. There is a small leak that just won't seal. Dana 18 transfer case. Checked the transfer case out and all gears in good shape. Small leak from lower pan also. I have a Spicer Rear only PTO installed in the jeep. I installed a new seal on the gearbox about 2 years ago. The pto spins at 600 rpm max. 30"x10.5"x15 Yokohama geolander mt+ tires. Plenty of tread. probably less than 3000 miles on tires, New stock height springs about 4 years ago The body has been replaced with one from an M38A1 military version of the CJ5. I sandblasted the body and painted it about 4 years ago. The M38A1 body differences are-- no tailgate, cowl battery box cover, pass side outlet for electrical tap, well under drivers seat for larger gas tank. I have a custom stainless steel tank that holds approx 15-17 gallons of gas. I have a rear seat installed. Front lap belts only. Sports bar that comes up behind the front sets. working heater/defroster GM 1 wire alternator conversion Drivers side vacuum wiper, passenger side hand crank wiper. Both blades are shot. vacuum wiper should work with a little cleaning. I had it working at one point and a mud wasp plugged it back up with a nest. What needs to be done... It needs a speedometer cable. the one I have is damaged. The military speedometer in the jeep worked before the cable broke. There are a few details like fuel gauge/sending unit need to be replaced. I only have a volt meter and oil pressure gauge hooked up right now. There is no glove box or glove box door. Hinges need to be installed on the tool box lid. Good news is there is no rust on the floor or the lid of the tool box. some electrical. i have installed a small fuse block and have majority of the electrical done. The known problem........... There is a rattle in the clutch when you push the pedal in. I know what it is and am trying to fix it by the end of the auction. there are some anti rattle clips on the pressure plate that are missing and I am trying to locate them now. I will fix it before you take possession or will work out something with you after the auction is over. I just wanted to let you know in case someone stops by to look at it or wants to hear it run. The valves and timing need to be adjusted, same thing, I'll have it done before you take possession of the jeep I am a member at the earlycj5.com forum and this jeep is known to many as "Wimpy" on the site. I have had it to Tellico in NC a couple of times and to Silver Lake in MI and the Mounds ORV park near Flint, MI. I have numberous pictures of various trips and work to the jeep on my webshots account. look for "bdh1274" I am parting with the jeep only because I have been working for the last 4 years to restore a '69 cj5. I have finished working on the '69 and do not want 2 old jeeps to play with and more importantly work on. Like I said, I would drive this every day to work and into town, but the top speed around 55-60 limits the distance you can -comfortably- drive this jeep. I also have a hard top which is missing a filler piece between the top and windshield and a tan best top tiger top with everything there. These both go with the jeep. Both tops are in good condition. I believe the hard top is a steel Myers top If you have any questions please let me know. I would be willing to help deliver the jeep a limited distance. Please contact me first to find out how far I am willing to drive. I am willing to help with any kind of trucking company pickup also. Local pickup is also fine by me.
