Vehicle Detail
You are looking at an armored 1995 Mercedes-Benz TRASCO S600 that was previously owned by the Sultan of Brunei, the richest man in the world at the time. This extremely rare car was armored by TRASCO, a division Centigon, at their top secret facility in Bremen, Germany at a cost of nearly $400,000. This beautiful V-12 was custom built with the highest level of armoring and performance and can withstand attacks from not only handguns but assault rifles and armor piercing military hardware such as hand grenades, yet has the serviceability and appearance of a regular S-class Mercedes. The glass is nearly 3 inches thick and composed of 5 layers of laminated glass adhered to the orignal Mercedes glass. There is also nearly a half inch of steel plating surrounding the entire passenger compartment. According to TRASCO only two or three of these cars were ever delivered to the United States as they only make vehicles for royalty, presidents and heads of state. The car was originally ordered through Fletcher Jones Mercedes-Benz in Newport Beach, California and was delivered to TRASCO after it was produced where it took nearly four months to armor. After the armoring was completed the car was shipped to England, then to the United States and delivered to the Sultan's residence in Beverly Hills, California. After the vehicle was purchased from the Sultan in 2003 it underwent a cosmetic and mechanical reconditioning at the Fletcher Jones dealership including new exterior paint that alone took over three months to complete and is still in perfect condition. It was then displayed at the prestigious Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles for nearly a year for the "Heads of State" exhibit in 2005. An intercom was installed in the car by TRASCO for communicating outside the car without opening the windows as the rear windows are fixed and the front windows open approximately six inches for security reasons. The car has two sets of run flat driving systems including a set of Mercedes 16 inch wheels with run flat inserts for originality as well as a set of 18 inch Carlsson wheels with Pirelli Eufori run flat tires for performance driving. The suspension was also upgraded by TRASCO to handle the additional weight of the armoring as the car weighs over 7,000 pounds. Items like an inoperable "fake" sun roof were added by TRASCO to keep the original look of an S-class Mercedes in order to blend in with the motoring traffic and reduce the likelihood of would-be attackers identifying it as transportation of a wealthy, high-profile or international figure. This extremely rare and gorgeous car is perfect for the serious car collector that wants a very unique car with a history or for someone who requires the utmost protection but is unwilling to spend the $500,000 that a new TRASCO S600 of this armoring level would cost.
