Vehicle Detail

Up for bid is a 1970 AMC Javelin SST Mark Donohue. This is a very interesting "barn find" we acquired recently. This car has quite the backstory: This car was purchased new in 1970 at Roy Bridges AMC in Birmingham, AL. The original owner drove it until 1979, when the transmission began to act up. He parked it in his pole barn and started to remove the transmission around 1980, when he suddenly passed away. The car remained there for the next 30 years largely untouched, still in the possession of his widow. It shows about 42,000 miles. As you can see, this car is virtually a time capsule, although weathered and in need of restoration. Mechanical: This Javelin is a Go-Pack car. The special 4bbl 360, Twin-Grip, dual-piston disc brakes and ram-air hood are in place. The front chin spoiler, if it had one originally, is missing. The engine is stuck from sitting, so assume it will need a total rebuild. The engine compartment is complete, down to the washer bag. Carb and engine tags are in place. The air cleaner is missing. Cosmetic: This car is still relatively solid after all this time with most of the rust issues confined to the trunk area. It still wears most of its original Tijuana Tan metallic paint. The rear right quarter appears to have been repaired at one time. Hood is in great condition. The car still wears the Cragar wheels and bias-ply tires it had when last driven 30 years ago. The trunk area needs the most work. As is common to these, there is rot around the weatherstrip rails and some in the rearward portion of the trunk floor. There is also small rot areas at each lower corner of the back glass. The interior is vintage 1979. It also needs work, but is complete. There is even the required 8-track player in place. The floors appear pretty solid, but there are at least a couple areas of rot. The glass appears good, however the passenger door glass is missing. Doors open and shut easily. The hood hinges are frozen. As you can see this '70 Javelin needs attention all over, but it's a very original, restorable car which will be a stunner when finished. EDIT: I HAVE ADDED TWO EXTENSIVE VIDEO TOURS OF THIS CAR TO BETTER SHOW IT'S CONDITION ALONG WITH THE TAGS AND CODES. THEY ARE LOCATED AT WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/KJM1983 This is a no-reserve auction, so bid to win. A $500 deposit via USPS money order is required no later than 7 business days after auction end, with pickup within a reasonable timeframe at my location here in North Alabama. There is no title with this vehicle, as Alabama does not require titles for vehicles older than model year 1975. However, we can easily register it as an antique to establish official state of origin for you. I do NOT deal with zero-feedback bidders or lowballers, at ALL, thank you. Please ask any questions you wish, and good luck!
