Vehicle Detail
1994 Mercedes Benz SL500 Coupe & V8 Engine! For the purposes of cleaning out the garage I am selling off EVERYTHING not bolted down! Please - CHECK OUT MY OTHER AUCTIONS. Pictures are actual item you are bidding on. You are bidding on a 1994 Mercedes Benz SL500!!! CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT THIS CAR SOLD FOR $$103,000.00 WHEN IT WAS NEW? I bought this car last year and have been using it as a daily driver. The lady who sold it to us said she bought it for her Husband, who had since moved on to something else. Now I am selling it because my business is slow and too many toys setting are just setting around - time to sell some stuff. As for the condition of the car, I AM NO MECHANIC. But keeping in mind I have driven it about 5000 miles and I will tell you what I can. First of all the body has a Black paint job and a Black leather interior (classic Mercedes colors). The windows and seats are power. Also the engine is a V8 with 330 horsepower factory. Put on BRAND NEW TIRES and had the fluids changed 4 months ago - as well as a installed new Battery. It has an automatic transmission. The odometer and speedometer don't work so - who knows what the mileage actually is. It runs great though. I have had MANY cars - but I have never driven one as well cornering as this one - it is a German performance car. Registration is current, tags and Pink Slip in hand. It's a looker, and I could go on and on about the car, but I think the negatives should be stated. 1. First off there is a thin layer oxidization that is on some of the paint. This is from being sat outside without a car cover by the previous owner(s) See picture. 2. Also it appears to me to need some upholstery work as well specifically the drivers side seat has a tear in it and the burl-wood door release covers need to be replaced. 3. The dash is very very nice but the steering wheel needed a leather cover which I put over the old leather that was showing it's age. 4. Also I was asked if the hard top comes off and I believe it does - but I don't know how it is done and since it is cold where I live I did not need a convertible anyway. 5. Drivers side mirror frame is cracked - see picture. 6. It is missing the front turn signal on the drivers side. Replacing it is $130 at the Mercedes Dealer. 7. The drivers side window won't roll up perfectly to seal the compartment. I was told that the window motor is fine but that the gearing on the motor needs replacing. 8. Paint has some imperfections and chips. There is a scrape by the rear tire. 9. When you start the engine cold it takes about 8 seconds of turning over to fire up. When the engine is long warmed up (driving for an half hour) - if you turn it off and restart - the engine turns over for about 10- 15 seconds - Longer than I would like but it has never failed to start since I have had it - but the car is 18 years old after all. 10. the warning lights on the dash for the ABS and the Lamp Light Out as well as the Auto Ride Control are on - this is probably due to it needing to be given its 5000 mile dealer service and reset. 11. I had a stereo installed - but I was told the wiring to the automatic antenna and rear stereo speakers needs repair. CD Stereo and front speakers work fine. THE VEHICLE IS AN 18 YEAR OLD COLLECTOR CAR - SO IT IS SOLD AS IS WHERE IS. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time as it is for sale locally. I wont give possession of the vehicle until I KNOW the funds have cleared my bank. It will be YOUR responsibility to set up your shipping arrangements. I will consider Trade offers Thanks & good luck! On May-22-10 at 00:17:52 PDT, seller added the following information: VEHICLE HIGHLIGHTSThe Mercedes SL two-passenger roadster debuted for 1990, with a choice of two engines. The 300SL used a 228-horsepower, 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder. A 5.0-liter V8, producing 322 horsepower, went into the 500SL. Each engine had dual-overhead camshafts and a four-valve-per-cylinder configuration. Built on a new rear-wheel-drive platform with a 99-inch wheelbase, the two-seater's body was 4.3 inches shorter overall than its predecessor. Both models were heavier, too. The 300SL weighed 458 pounds more than the previous model, while the new 500SL tipped the scales at 265 pounds more than the former 560SL. Both versions of Mercedes' luxury coupe/convertible came with a removable aluminum hardtop as well as a power soft top. A five-speed manual transmission was standard in the 300SL, with five-speed automatic optional. The 500SL came only with a four-speed automatic transmission. Safety was a major design factor in the new convertibles. A rollover bar was designed to flip into position between the seats when needed. Made of foam-covered steel tubing, the bar lay flush with the rear tonneau cover, ready to deploy within 0.3 second if sensors detected an impending rollover incident. The bar could be raised and lowered via a dashboard button, if desired. Antilock braking also was standard.
