Vehicle Detail

This auction is for a 1971 Dodge Polara police package. This car was used by the Sanoma County Sheriffs from 1971 until 1974. I bought this car in 2005 from the dealer who bought the car when the county auctioned it off in 1975. The car was towed to his lot in Santa Rosa where it sat virtually in the same spot for the next 30 years. I bought it as a donor car for a project I was working on. I have verified the drive train in this car is the original and the vin matches. It has a HP 383 with heavy duty Torqueflite transmission. The interior is original. The dash pad is in very good condition. It had a roof mounted spot light and a whip antenna mounted on the drivers rear fender. The car was stored outside and under a big tree. There was an accumulation of leaves in some areas and there is some rust. It is not a rust bucket by any means. It does look like Chrysler did not undercoat though. I replaced the hood, trunk lid and front drivers fender from another car that I felt had better parts. The groove between the deck lid and the drivers rear fender had leaves built up and rust through where the seal is. The trunk floor directly above the fuel tank is rusted through. There is a little rust on the firewall. The glass is good except for a small crack on the bottom of the passenger side windshield where it meets the dashboard. The tires were rotten and didn't hold air. I swapped the set for the ones on the car now. I have two of the original wheels. This car runs. I drove it into the barn. While I had it in the front, I pulled the radiator and fuel tank. I took them to the radiator shop and had them inspected and flushed. The transmission is noisy and it leaks some from the front seal. I registered it in my name and immediately non opped it. The motor runs good. After getting the car home, I pulled the rear seat and looked through it thoroughly. I found a lot of documentation. I found the original delivery paperwork to the Sanoma County Sheriffs dated 2-11-1971, along with the customer care pamphlet, stopping distance, acceleration and passing pamphlet from Chrysler, owners manual, change of ownership card, clean air pamphlet, and fuel usage statement. I have the original build sheet. I have the bill of sale from the county to the dealer I bought the car from. This is an excellent restoration project with documentation. It runs but not safe for the road in the current condition. It is a complete car minus a battery. It is currently stored in my barn. It will have to be transported by trailer. I am describing it to the best of my knowledge and ability. Please ask questions before bidding. This car is sold as-is with no guarantee.
