Vehicle Detail

Selling my 1987 Jaguar XJS. I got this car in Summer of 2009. I put the following work into it: new shocks (rear takes four shocks, front two) and new front brake rotors and pads - $2,067 new rear brake rotors, pads and calipers - $1,069 full major tune up from the dealership (new spark plugs, wires, rotor, fuel filter plus various other) - $1,176 new brake master cylinder - $500. In case you're wondering why I replaced almost every part of the brake system, it's because being a performance car, I wanted it to be as safe for me as possible. all rubber fuel injection hoses in engine bay replaced (except for one which was virtually brand new) - $850 new power mirror switches $160 flush and replace transmission fluid and replace transmission fluid filter and add transmision lube guard - $157 rear differential pinion replacement plus drain and refill rear differential fluid - $194 two new exhaust pipes - $194 oil and filter change (12 quarts of oil) - $76 (dealership had a special) radiator flush and refill and replace electric radiator fan - $245 recharge air conditioning with freeze-12 - about $100 (and yes, the A/C works) new wood grain $127 new rubber seals for two doors and trunk $123 new hood struts $38 new visor clips $15 set of 15 brand new high quality cooling hoses custom made for this car, in the trunk in case you ever need to change one - $80 replace fuses, cigarette lighter, interior lights - $39 four new pirelli tires plus complete laser alignment - $690 various other cosmetic (wax, polish, leather treatment, clean etc.) - about $500 I paid $3,500 for the car. In total all of the above restoration cost about $8,000. Being realistic I do not expect to recoup my entire $11,000+ investment, but I expect a fair price. The car is a great car. It's a true beauty that elicits compliments and gazes wherever I take it. I wish I didn't have to sell it, but I could use the money right now. Question from potential buyer: Q: Any rust? Do all the lights, gauges etc. operate? Oil leaks? Was this car repainted? How hot does the car run? Thanks Dec-19-09 A: No rust that I see anywhere (I wouldn't have put all that work into it if there was rust). I am certain the following lights work: headlights, turn signals, brake light, warning lights in instrument panel (you can check them when starting the car), the five interior lights that illuminate the car. The following guages work: spedometer, RPM meter, temperature guage (checked with an infrared thermometer because this car can have overheating issues if not well maintained, and I wanted to make sure the guage was correctly reporting normal temperatures), oil pressure guage (low when idling, in the middle [about 50] when you have your foot on the pedal), volt meter (always in the middle at 13, where it should be). The fuel guage works but when it's full it shows 3/4 full, slowly going down to empty as fuel goes down. The trip computer (above the radio) works perfectly, showing fuel used, miles per gallon, distance travelled, average speed and so on. The car was repainted at some point, but not by me. There was a slight oil leak (a few drips each time) but after consulting with jaguar experts I was told it was normal for the car and not something I needed to fix (it's actually a great rust proofing thing). The oil does not leak so much that you need to top off with oil, and it's actually completely stopped ever since I did an oil change using 40W oil. Car runs fine. It's started every time, had a tune up as stated above and again I wouldn't have wasted all that time/money on brakes/shocks if there was an engine problem.
