The BOSS 302 is the epitome of Fords dedication to dominating the Trans-Am series. A true factory race car built with the sole purpose of destroying the Z28 Camaro that GM brought to the track. Ford envisioned a Performance car that could be "raced on Sunday, driven on Monday" and with this car they hit it out of the park! There was no doubt that the 302 was meant for the track. The BOSS 302 engine provided some impressive performance stats: Acceleration of 0-60 mph in 6.9 seconds Quarter mile speed of 14.6 seconds at 98 mph Top speed of 118 mph Ford's team was led by Bud Moore, and while they failed to win in 1969, two BOSS 302 Mustangs were entered in the 1970 season. One of them, driven by Parnelli Jones, pulled off a win and took the SCCA Trans-Am Championship. Having made its mark, the BOSS 302 Mustang disappeared after a short two-year production run. The 302 engine had several additional performance features that made it perfect for a race engine: The high nickel content block was strengthened with a thicker deck and 4-bolt main caps, and used a high nickel-content steel. The big Cleveland heads used 8 valve cover bolts instead of six, and featured gargantuan 2.19 intake & 1.71 exhaust valves. A special aluminum over/under high rise intake manifold. Connecting rods were forged from high-strength steel w/ 3/8ths bolts to support the high crankshaft RPM. The dual-balanced, cross-drilled crankshaft was made of high-strength forged steel. The block featured screw in style freeze plugs. The compression ratio was achieved by special forged high-silicon pistons and was rated @ 10.6:1 Ford equipped the BOSS 302 with an apron mounted rev limiter to prohibit over revs on missed shifts that could grenade this high revving engine easily with the engine RPM's exceeding 9000! These design features combined to create what has become one of the true American performance legends. More than 40 years later, collectors and enthusiasts still hold up the BOSS 302 as a perfect example of a street-legal race car - and the price of these rare cars on the used-car market prove it. It was the solid lifter design that produced that distinctive chatter that still gets fans' heartbeats racing fast today. The engine in this BOSS 302 was exchanged while under factory warranty using Ford's counter exchange program. It has been rebuilt to original specs along with the original close ratio 4 speed less than 500 mile ago, The original V code 3.91 with Traction-Loc is also still with the car. This 1970 BOSS 302 features all original sheet metal with the exception of the passenger outer fender apron which was replaced as a result of a leaky battery. There is ZERO rust on this amazing muscle car. The floors, floor supports, torque boxes, trunk pan, trunk drop offs, inner/outer wheel houses are all un-cut and the car has no signs of front end damage as the radiator support is original and in excellent condition as well. This Boss 302 has had only one repaint in the original #3470-A Ford yellow color. The Black Rhino interior is in very good original condition and presents nicely. This fantastic piece of American racing history was completed on September 25, 1969, one day behind schedule. It was built at Ford's Metuchen plant located in Edison, New Jersey. Please Reference the included deluxe Marti Report and you will find that this 1970 BOSS 302 still retains all of its optional ordered original equipment such as the rear deck spoiler, 8000 RPM tachometer, rim blow-deluxe steering wheel, rear sport slats, and am radio. the car has been upgraded to the Magnum-500 chrome wheels and as you can see from the pictures, a Shaker-hood has been installed! These types of collector cars don't become available very often as this one has only had 3 owners since new. Out of the 7013 that Ford produced, it is estimated that only a little under half remain. Don't miss your chance to own one of the most sought after classic cars of all time! This 1970 BOSS 302 will ship with a clean California title, registration & bill of sale. Also included in the sale, a deluxe Marti Report, an original Ford gate release and accounting form and a binder full of receipts and period correct Ford literature on the BOSS 302.
