Vehicle Detail
RUST FREE / Clean Title / Daily Driver / Running Project Before the ground pounding Trackhawk and the pavement scorching SRT’s, there was the competition crushing 5.9 Limited. The 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited is where the high performance SUV began. Featuring unrivaled power and unparalleled exclusivity, it was rightly heralded as the undisputed 4x4 of year by virtually all of the the leading automotive journalists and publications of the day. At the time of production, the 5.9 Limited was easily “The World’s Fastest SUV!” and its almighty successor still fights doggedly for that title today. Production Numbers: 1993-1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee: 1,647,188 (www.allpar.com) 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee: 247,372 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited: 14,286 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited with Federal Emissions: 10,051 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited with California Emissions: 4,235 Vin: 1J4GZ88Z2WC293455 Year: 1998 Make: Jeep Model: Grand Cherokee (ZJ) Trim: 5.9 Limited (Federal Emissions) Title Status: Clear Registration Status: Valid Engine: 5.9 Liter (OEM Federal Emissions Z Code 360cui V8) Drivetrain: All Time Assist High/Low Four Wheel Drive Quadra-Trac Transmission: 4-Speed Automatic with Overdrive (OEM 46RE) Front Differential: OEM Dana 30 Rear Differential: OEM Dana 44 with Trac-Lok Odometer: 208,000 Miles Exterior - A very clean and straight body with no major damage. It currently has an ARB winch mount front bumper installed. There are of course a few small dings or dents here and there which I would describe as par for the age and mileage of the Jeep. Also, the windshield has a crack and the rear passenger wing window is broken. Interior - Currently very clean and the majority of the interior electrical features are functional but it is lacking some OEM items such as stereo components. Interior leather wear and damage is a VERY common problem with the 5.9 Limited. The leather in this 5.9 Limited is in relatively good condition with the exception of a stain on the passenger side of the backseat and the steering wheel leather is ripped. Additionally, the headliner is sagging in places and there is typical miscellaneous damage to a variety of plastic trim components. Engine, Transmission, and Drivetrain - 1 of 10,051 5.9 Limited engines that came with the less restrictive and more desirable “Federal Emissions” classification. It currently has a K&N intake and Flowmaster muffler installed. Also, the catalytic converter has been deleted which causes the CEL to come on intermittently as the rear O2 sensor was not reinstalled with a plug fouler. There are naturally things to repair, replace, or refurbish on this Jeep due to its age, mileage, and general use but they are all primarily related to proper vehicle maintenance and general upkeep which should be primarily addressable to the average home mechanic on a modest budget. For example, there is a noticeable vibration when driving at highway speeds due to two of the wheels being unbalanced and missing the exterior balancing weights entirely. Obviously, this is a relatively easy and inexpensive repair to have done but something that will admittedly require attention for daily driving or regular usage. Rust - Unfortunately, rust is a MAJOR problem for the 5.9 Limited. However, I can guarantee with absolute certainty that this example has a 100% RUST FREE unibody frame. Additionally, ALL of the doors are 100% rust free and without any noticeable sag whatsoever. Vehicle History and Documentation - From the vehicle history report I reviewed, it does show that this specific 5.9 Limited has had quite a few previous owners (Hence, why I have affectionately named her “Gypsy”), but it also has a clean title with no accident history or insurance claims. The factory build sheet shows that this is still the original color, Deep Slate, and it was originally ordered with one item of optional equipment. It has a Chrysler factory “Tow Package” which included a Class III hitch and it is rated by the factory to tow up to 6,500 pounds. Overall Condition: Fair/Good The vehicle may be picked up locally or arrangements can be made for shipping. For reference, I have sold multiple Jeeps that buyers have had shipped to as far away places as Scotland. I am very familiar with the vehicle shipping process and I am happy to be both helpful and accommodating to the best of my abilities. This vehicle will remain securely garaged in its current location until the time of delivery and the utmost care will be taken to ensure that full transparency and documentation occurs throughout the buying process. I have made every attempt to be honest, accurate, and thorough in the description of both the attributes and detriments associated with this 5.9 Limited specifically but please do not hesitate to communicate with me if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.
