Vehicle Detail

Pre X 1969 Z/28 Build date 11.20.1968 Purchasing a car online is very difficult; I try to be as descriptive in my listings as possible... When I describe the condition, I use the worst possible sizes, examples, and terminology possible to eliminate that unwanted surprises we've all encountered. The following is my best description of the car, and the WORST parts/condition of the car. If I've forgotten something, please feel free to ask. I'd call this a "nice turn key Driver" Not a show car. While you can Drive and enjoy this car as it is... It requires work, both metal, and interior to be done right. Here is the very general overview followed by specifics. Runs/Drives with 350 Includes Correct 302 Block Correct Discs/Dual Valve Master Cylinder Correct Exhaust Hangers/Springs Dated Correct 12 Bolt BO Rear Fresh M22 (just restored not Date Correct) and New Hurst Shifter GM Cowl HoodOriginal Metal (what hasn't been patched) Original Emblems Originally Olympic Gold / Black Car Deluxe Interior It's my guess that this car was Repainted in the late 80's.... It shows well, but it's got the flaws of 80's paintwork and repairs.. Quarter Panels Quarters Are both very solid and appear to be original to the car. There is filler in the lower legs of both panels, and there is some bubbling on the drivers side, just below the "gills". Wheel lips are both solid, with little or no previous work. I would say the car needs light repair where bubbles are. Overall: Very Decent. Rockers Rocker panels both show obvious signs of amateur work done LONG ago( probably long before remanufactured panels readily existed. ) There are both flat patches of metal, and filler throughout the panels. While they are VERY solid as a result of the work, it's clearly not correct, and it was my intention to put the correct repairs in place. It's strong, it's not really rusty, but it's not right. Trunk By far the worst part of the car. The repair work in this area is absolutely shameful. Its basically about 2 gallons of fiberglass resin poorly placed over whatever rust issues were present when they did it. It. is. Awful. The car is going to need a full trunk floor at some point to be correct. Ive put them in before, and they're not hard, and there's good metal surrounding to do the work correctly... but Man, it needs a trunk. On the positive side, it's strong, it doesn't leak, and if you don't open the trunk to show anyone, they'll never know. But you'll know... and it will make you sad. Trunk Lid Solid and nice. its like a nice wrapper for horribly tasting candy. Front Fenders Some filler here or there i'm sure, but very nice. I don't see that they were re-drilled for z/28 emblems and it's my determination they're Z fenders based on that. Inners are nice, and not rusted. Hood Other than some fisheyes in the paint, the hood is a very nice GM Cowl hood. no rust or issues that i see. Opens and closes easily. Roof No issues that i see. There is a tiny crack near the rear window channel where it's comes to a "pinch point" that i see in a lot of 69's. it's minor minor minor but it's there. All window channels are good and solid with no leaks. Doors Good solid doors, both open and close without sag. alignment is good. Mirror are not correct. No rust. Glass probably has a newer non original windshield. looks good to me. Rest of the glass is original, and has some ice scraper marks... maybe some sanding scratches. everything works as it should. Engine Currently has a 1970 350/250 hp manual trans engine. Runs well. doesn't smoke. No leaks. Very Reliable. (Didn't check the heads but I'm guessing 194's) Correct Valve covers, but that's about it for Z parts. This auction includes the date correct, 68 302 block casting 3956618, standard bore, 4 bolt main with windage tray studs- dated within 2 weeks of car build. I have additional engine components that can be negotiated beyond vehicle price if buyer is interested. (intake, carb, deep groove pullies, green tip dipstick, and an extra set of valve covers) Transmission Brand new Muncie M22 from a 70 big block chevelle. 100% And Fresh new in perfect working order. New Hurst Shifter and linkage. Very positive Shifting experience. Rear end Correct 12 bolt date correct 3:73 Rear No issues- Wheels and Tires: I put cheap rollers on it for this sale as I am keeping the set of steel wheels for another car. You can see in one of the photos how much better a nice set of wheels look on the car. Interior Interior is serviceable. Originally this was a deluxe interior no console car... someone put the incorrect (68) door panels on it for some reason so the door locks are in the wrong place. dash is decent. everything works right down to the key buzzer. New Rosewood wheel. Incorrect (standard) seat covers but they're not torn or ripped. Decent headliner. Newer carpet. Heater/Defroster Works. Overall i'd say it's a little above driver quality. As for exterior chrome and small things, most of the chrome is in driver quality shape or above. Car Generally presents very well and is fun to drive and sounds good. Summary Why do i think this is a Z? Well, a few things: 1. I know the location of the original engine that I will share with you. That motor is for sale (last I checked) which is really all you need for a pre-x code car... This car has the correct exhaust hangers, brake booster, disc brakes, date correct 12 bolt rear, front fenders and small tell-tale signs that get you where you need to go. This is a running driving car that has been sitting for some time. As a result the brakes need bled (or it's low on brake fluid). I can have the brakes done if you wish to drive it home. I drove it all last summer with 0 issues. This car has some blemishes, and the previously mentioned required metal/interior work make it take a hit on peak value for sure. It's a decent looking, running driving early Z that you can invest some time into and have a really great car in the end. The sum of the components I have will certainly set the stage for you. The ONLY reason i am selling is for the purchase of another vehicle I want... and it's priced to sell this week. Happy to assist with shipping and any questions you might have.
