Vehicle Detail
I told my wife, it was going to be big, really big. And it was and still is. It's 19 feet long, six-and-a-half wide and has a wheelbase of more than 11 feet. My Excursion won't be outsized. While the market continues to mutates into crossover vehicles, the Excursion took the truck end of the spectrum and kept going. Its hard not to like seating for up to nine adults or space for 165 cubic feet of stuff. It's bigger inside than my first apartment and it will haul more friends than I've got. I have three kids and when we used to go out when they were younger, we take two or three strollers, diaper bags and bags with extra clothes, so we need the room. We also tow a 25-foot travel trailer, so we needed something to pull that when we go camping. There hasn't been anything else like it produced since 2005 and there never will be again. The truck is super quiet when up to speed and the seats are as comfortable a a lazy boy recliner. It's a great vehicle for long trips. The switches are located logically and the seats are comfortable. Visibility is better than expected in all areas. I like the big-truck look. It's still unique enough that people look and point. The interior comes loaded with most anything a family could want: There are five separate power points, two sets of map pockets in the doors, 10 cupholders and more head-, shoulder-and legroom than an outdoor rock concert and we opted to install TV in the seats and the upgraded DVD player and flip down TV. With the mighty V10 available, you'll never have a complaint about torque. The 6.8-liter makes 310 horsepower and 425 lb-ft of torque, which is good for towing. While torque serves you well on long uphill slogs, at the drag strip it's about horsepower. When you put those 310 horses into a 7190-pound Excursion, the results are impressive. And while you won't be outsized in an Excursion. The Super Duty platform is designed to handle heavier loads in the bed and on the trailer hitch than the light-duty Expedition, but it gives up some handling and garageability. Ford says the Excursion fits into most garages, but they obviously didnt test NYC garages. Suitably sized parking spaces in an urban city are are as rare as desert rainstorms. A notable difference between the Excursion and other SUVs is people are more polite at four-way crossings and highway on-ramps. The skinny stock tires were replaced with Fierce mud tires on the Plasti-Dipped stock chrome wheels for a more aggressive look and feel. Truck is rust free Florida truck and was recently brought up to NY after selling my vacation home this past spring. A ton of new parts installed, only needs a new home. Pricing when ordered new was stickered at $42,955. Buy it at a fraction of what we did and you can still tell everyone years later that "Mine's bigger."
