Vehicle Detail
For sale is a 2003 Triumph Speedmaster, vertical twin 790cc motorcycle. I am the second owner of the bike as of 2007. I bought it used at a dealership in Loraine, OH where the original owner traded it in. It had 6466 miles at that time and I've taken it up to 19406 as of right now. Please note that I will NOT share the reserve out of fairness to all bidders. Service: I have done all of the service on the bike myself with oil changes minimal every year. I've been working on British and Japanese bikes for over 35 years and this one is super easy. All service has been on schedule with the exception of the oil changes which I don't wait for but do every fall. At the end of last year the left intake valve measured near minimum and was traveling in that direction so I know for sure it will need a valve job soon. I had planned on doing it at the end of this season but plans changed when I found a new ride I couldn't pass up. Cosmetics: I would say it's pristine but the original owner had put a scratch in the tank on the side, right by your crotch, and another small one on the front fender. Both are very small and were already touched up with matching black paint when I got it 9 years ago. Otherwise this bike is very clean. It is always garaged and has never spent time outside unless my butt was on it excepting during one ride to Maggie Valley a few years back. Some hotel rooms are just too small to roll your bike in. :( Overall condition: I didn't buy this bike to do wheelies from Starbucks to the red light. It has been adult ridden and pampered while in my hands. I'll do my best to list out the big things and the changes I've made... Typically I ride on the weekends or evenings south of Columbus but I've taken a few rides down to Hocking Hills, one ride to a rally in Maggie Valley, and a 1000 mile Iron Butt endurance challenge (bucket list, check). The majority of the ~13k miles I've put on her in 11 years have been on 45-65 mph roads; I don't much enjoy city traffic all bundled up in gear. Brakes are in good shape. They have probably 5k miles on them since I replaced both front and rear. Brake fluid was flushed and filled at the same time. Tires front and rear have 5k as well (get the idea I had it all this replaced before the Iron Butt?). Rear Shocks: These I had replaced with Hagon 2810 shocks 5 years ago. They're a vast improvement over OEM. Front Springs: Replaced with Progressive springs and flushed and replaced fork oil last year. This should have been done out of the crate from England, the OEM oil was awful and uneven in the forks, just as the reputation says. Front Pegs are Kuryakyn Wings. They're more comfy than pegs and adjustable without going to floorboards. AI: Removed Airbox: Removed and replaced with the "Freak Kit". It sounds SO much nicer on these twins. Pod K&N Air Filters installed, current ones are in great shape and I can throw in an unused can of oil, though they don't need cleaned. I rejetted the carbs to 42 Pilot/154 Mains. This bike is not going to set any 0-60 timer on fire but that's not why I wanted a Speedmaster. It does run well and will get you where you need on the highway or back roads. Exhaust: It still has the Triumph TOR Short pipes that it had on it when I got the bike. I had an issue with one of the heat shields jamming up under the clutch rod on a trip to Maggie Valley a few years back and in my frustration I ripped it off the bike. I liked the look better so I did the same on the other side. Both pipes have since been painted with satin black high temp paint. I like the look better, but I'm not a chrome guy. Speaking of not being a chrome guy, I painted the dashboard satin black as well. Why anyone would want chrome under their eyes on a motorcycle is beyond me... Also, keen observers will notice I lost my neutral light lens some years ago. They were somewhat infamous for coming out but I learned too late. A touch of superglue and the other 3 lenses have never moved, but I've replaced the neutral lens with a toy alien head that now glows green when she's in neutral. Yes it's weird but it works, is fun and reminds me of my children and to be safe. ;) Additional Equipment: It also has the Triumph Aftermarket windshield, the big one. Very nice on the highway... It also has the Triumph aftermarket "king and queen" seat. Each of those is over $500 but very nice for comfort. That's everything I can think of. I've included a bunch of pictures. This is a wonderful motorcycle and has been treated with TLC. In the 11 years I've owned it I've seen 3 others on the road and one of those belongs to a good friend who bought his after riding mine. It's certainly a one of a kind locally and is reliable and very easy to work on.
