Vehicle Detail
Like the title says, it is a 1978 BMW R100S. This bike has been rebuilt to a very high standard with the engine rebuild and paint work being done professionally. I had intended to keep this bike, but, unfortunately, job loss forces sale. There has been so much work done that I don’t know where to begin. I have included a list of SOME of the things done. There is more, but I think you can see that from what I have listed, there has been a very comprehensive rebuild of the bike. The bike is painted as a limited addition BMW. It did not leave the factory this way, but I wanted to replicate this look. I did try and make it as correct as possible though, with the aluminum valve covers and the chrome shock absorbers. The decals are on top of the clear coat so if they are damaged, it is no problem to replace them without disturbing the paintwork. The original factory paint code was used to correctly match the paint. Some additional details include, sourcing decals from BMW to replace the factory warning stickers, having custom glass lenses cut for the gauges to replace the ugly yellowed plastic, as well as all new rubber parts on the bike. The engine was professionally rebuilt by a local motorcycle mechanic well versed in BMW repair. I took the opportunity to upgrade the factory cylinders and pistons to Siebenrock cylinders and pistons. These are made by a German aftermarket performance company. I maintained the original engine displacement, but these cylinders have a nikasil coating like the later BMW factory cylinders do. This coating provides superior wear resistance. All BMW factory parts were used with the acceptation of cylinders and the fairing. The fairing is the same design as the original, but it is a reproduction that I got from England. I just couldn’t find a decent used one. Since the rebuild, I have taken the bike on a 300 mile trip as well as many local rides. It has always performed perfectly. The bike does need two things to be corrected though. There is a clunking sound from the front forks when they encounter a large bump. I believe the headstock bearing needs to be tightened, but I can’t locate the special thin hook wrench to do the job since most of my tools are in storage. The turn signals work only intermittently There are a few minor blemishes from normal riding and storage. It has not been wrecked or dropped since I have owned the bike. The luggage is a little scuffed, discolored. It didn’t bother me, so I didn’t replace it. There are just under 25,000 miles on the odometer. Less than 1000 miles on the rebuild. I believe this to be one of the finest BMW motorcycles available on Ebay. I would not hesitate to ride it anywhere. That being said- it is an old machine so there is no warranty associated with this motorcycle. I’m just a guy, not a business. I do have receipts for much of the work done by myself and some by the previous owner. Engine rebuild, and many of the parts purchased are documented with receipts.1978 BMW R100S Work completed: Engine:· Rebuilt with:o New set of Siebenrock pistons o New set of Siebenrock cylinderso New cranko New sealso New bearings· Carburetors rebuilt· New intake pipes· New mufflers· New exhaust· New starter· New plug wires and Bosch sparkplug caps· I think new clutch…Frame· New seat· Factory correct paint and decal set· All New badges· Most of the rubber parts are new· New steering damper· New rear shock absorbers· Recent tires· New warning/caution decals· Seat pan sand blasted and powder coated· Custom cut glass lenses for gauges to replace yellowed plastic· New fairing and windshield· New handle bars· New fuel filler capElectrical· New alternator, · New voltage regulator· New voltage gauge· New clock· New headlight switch· New bulbs where necessary· New circuit board Misc.· Reproduction owner’s manual· Original tire pump· Recent fluid change · Careful engine run in completed
