Vehicle Detail
This is a 1970 Oldsmobile 442 Convertible.Matador Red Exterior w/white stripes, White Power Convertible Top, Power Disc Brakes, power steering, power windows, etc. This car was part of a 10+ car collection. Stored in a climate controlled showroom and only driven a few times per year to keep everything in working condition. The car runs and drives perfectly. All power components are in working condition. Breakdown:3 = Oldsmobile Division44 = 442 series/model67 = 2dr convertible0 = 1970 model yearE = assembly plant. Linden NJ180957 = sequential number. This number is also found on the motor and transmission as per federal law beginning in 1968. Cowl tag:ST 70 34467 E 911TR 937 75 A PNT05B A31 70 = 197034467 = Oldsmobile 442 2dr convertibleTR 937 = interior trim; Ivory white strato bucket seats 75 = matador red lower body colorA = white convertible top05B = car assembled 2nd week of may 1970 making it a fairly late production car. The engine is a correct "F" block. The casting letter is on the front of the most just left of where the oil fill tube enters the top of the block. All 1968-72 455 blocks are cast "F" including Olds 98s and Toronados in addition to 442s. The engine has "C" casting cylinder heads. They are cast at the front lower corner (below the valve cover) on the driver's side head, and at the rear lower corner of the passenger side head. They are casting "394 548" which are 1968-69 400 and 455 applications. They are considered the best common Oldsmobile cylinder head for performance. 1970 442s all have "E" casting cylinder heads from the factory and 1970 W-30s have "F" castings. The motor does have the correct "W" and "Z" casting exhaust manifolds. They are specific to 442s. The plastic air cleaner lid is an original. It is in excellent condition. It does not have any cracks, it is not painted (which for some reason people like to paint the "OLDSMOBILE" letting on them. The hinge is in tact, and the vacuum diaphragm works correctly when the 442 is running. The car has the correct HD cooling (455 + A/C). It has the correct "4 core" top plate, and has a correct 4 core radiator installed. The top plates are often incorrect on these cars. The car has the correct core support for a W-25 ram-air hood equipped car. The 3rd rubber bumper near the hood latch assembly is present. This is found on ram air cars only. This point is often overlooked by people who add a W-25 hood to a car as they don't make the necessary core support modifications. The hood is an original W-25 hood. It is an OEM original and not an aftermarket hood. It has a correct metal base with fiberglass bonded to the top side. It has the correctly drilled holes inside the ram air scoops. it has the correct wire mesh, and it is tack welded near the rear of the hood. The doors are both very nice. Both are still wearing their correct striker plates. Theses plates were only installed on convertibles. Generally when a door is replaced the striker plate is not transferred to the new door. 1970 442s with automatic transmissions are equipped with turbo hydramatic 400s. There is a small 1"x2" aluminum tag affixed to the passenger side of the Turbo 400 case roughly in the middle of the transmission. All divisions of GM use the same identification system. Additionally the sequential number to the car is stamped on a small pad on the driver's side of the case jus above the pan. The rear end is a correct 12-bolt Oldsmobile rear end found on all 1970 Olds intermediates. It has the optional "W-27" rear end cover. This was available as a dealer installed option. Additionally the car has the correct rear anti-sway bar (part of the 442 package) along with the correct boxed lower control arms. Additionally the car has the correct rear frame braces found on all big block cars. Cloned cars often omit the rear frame braces as the person cloning the car doesn't realize there's a difference between a small block and big block car. The paint has a very brilliant finish. The panel alignment is excellent. The bumpers have excellent chrome and fit well. I would rate the paint at a 9 or even a 9.5 out of 10. The doors open and shut well. The interior is also in excellent shape. The car presents as well at 5 feet as it does at 50. The fit and finish is excellent. There were 18,938 442s built in 1970. Of those only 2,933 were convertibles. After nearly 50 years it's likely that very few original cars remain. This is also a very highly optioned 442. Not many were equipped with W-25 ram air hoods from the factory. A/C is also a very desirable option. Power windows is very rarely seen on 1970s adding even more to the car's desirability. Here's a list of the option codes: 442 model: Includes 455 V8 rated at 365 horse power and 500 ft pounds of torque. 10.5 to 1 compression ratio. Dual exhaust, cut our rear bumper, 442 badging on hood/fenders/trunk lid/glove box. FE2 suspension package including front and rear stabilizer bars.
