Vehicle Detail
1972 Chevrolet Nova 307, Power Steering, Manual brakes, automatic on the column. Generally, This is an original, 56000 original mile car that Starts, Stops, Runs and Drives. All the lights and signals work, heater works great, Vents all open and close, with a very serviceable interior that needs some body/paint/maybe general maintenance work. Has ALL of the original documentation Including Protect-o plate and even the original key blank punches. Following is a detailed description of the car. I try to be very accurate in my descriptions and err on the negative side of things to save headaches and disappointment. Car is actually in very good shape metal-wise- I'll do my best to cover everything: This is some surface rust on the undercarriage of the car, but structurally there are no issues with the frames or suspension components. Quarters: Good and solid with an area on the drivers side showing signs of bubbling and rust. not major- have filler from a previous repaint- Wheel lips are solid. inners are very solid. It's my opinion the car does not need quarter panels... just some repair in the very lowest portions by the rocker panels. Trunk and rear valances: Solid, though has had a few patches in the corners in the past. there is some rust-through on the welded lip near the passenger tail light as shown in the photos, and a small repair above that near where the corner of the trunk lid closes. I drove it in heavy rain... it doesn't take water in the trunk, despite needing new seals. Doors: Solid - some surface rust underneath- nothing major. Both doors sag a bit so it could use new bushings. you can close them without much trouble but they're not perfect. Glass is all good. Windows all work. This car has an incorrect passenger window.. *it's missing the vent pane. the door is correct... the window is not. Top: Is good and solid. maybe some slight surface rust under stainless molding in the corners... but nothing rusted through that i see. Windshield: is good, and appears to be newer. Air inlet below windshield has surface rust near defrosters. Doesn't leak, isn't bad. Hood: Solid. Small spots or surface rust underneath, but nothing major. Shock towers and suspension points. Solid- No rust or holes.. going to need new bushings if you put 20,000 miles on it. Has had a few ball joints replaced and control arm bushings. Front Fenders: Good and solid, inner and outers. Maybe some small spots of surface rust underneath. Has about 60,000 coats of undercoating, as does the majority of the car. as you can see the drivers fender and most of the door are in primer, which you barely notice when your'e inside driving it. Front Frame Structure is good. Rear Structures are good. Leaf perches are good. There is no sag in the car when you sit in it. Floors: The floors have been patched in the typical lower front and rear pans. I would say whomever completed the repair, overall, did a good job, but it's not factory in appearance AT ALL. But, its solid, and doesn't leak. again, it has some 9 million coats of undercoating so i'm a little shocked it was able to rust at all. RockersYou didn't think you were going to see an original car that didn't need work on the rockers did you? Inners are very solid on both sides. Outer front rocker on passenger side is the worst, with notable hole that is a little larger than a dollar bill, and soft a few inches behind what is obvious. by far the worst spot on the car. The drivers side has been repaired previously and looks like it might be hiding the same issue behind some filler... but my guess is it's not as bad. It structurally good, but you can see it needs some flat panel repair. I would not say it needs entire rocker panels replaced, inner, or outer. InteriorAll of the wiring harnesses are present- all of the interior is present... it's not destroyed by any means, but I'd recover the seats. The seat covers you see can be removed and underneath is a very service-able original bench seat, that has some tears in the stress-points by the seat adjuster/tracks. It's actually pretty nice for original. the only reason I'm leaving the covers on at all are: 1. They go perfectly well with the butterscotch nursing home exterior color... 2. The original foam is a little "powdery" and it keeps that powder of your body.. which is a huge plus if you wear anything other than mustard colored pants. It's got an aftermarket steering wheel that does come with a cover, but i took it off because it's horrible and cramps my style of trying to appear under the age of 76. Horn works when cover is on. Dash carrier and pad are VERY nice/ uncut and un-split. all of the controls work and I'd say work well. Heater melts your friggin' face off. Tires look like they have maybe 200 miles on them. they're brand spanking new and are mounted to 15x7 Rallies that are in nice shape. rings and caps are decent for drivers. Mechanically:It Runs/idles well with a couple pumps of the pedal to get it started. It's sort of pleasant to drive actually. tracks well, trans kicks down to passing gear... and drives straight. brakes are strong, and it stops well and feel "safe". It has the original radio and an aftermarket cassette deck that works well, is loud and only plays Steve Miller Band cassettes. I's say one could drive it wherever you want as long as they want. I found a receipt for a new water pump and some misc tune up items that are 3 years old in it... Other than some typical small block chevy oil leaks, it's mechanically sound. if ANYTHING it probably need the points adjusted or possibly a condenser as it has a slight hesitation in acceleration until its warmed up... but its very very VERY minor. Anyway, It's a very solid little car for a restoration that you can get into today, drive around and not impress anyone who isn't color-blind with. As mentioned previously I do my best to take photos and give descriptions of the WORST areas. there might be some spots or stains or things like that here and there... and I'm not listing every little cosmetic thing I see. I'm listing the things you'll be mad at if i don't. It's not hiding anything, and neither am I. If you have specific questions- please ask prior to buying.
