Vehicle Detail
As to myself, I am a (68) year old kid that loves muscle cars. For my work, I am retired from managing a Correctional Facility here in Maine and had worked for the Maine Department of Corrections for (40) years. I am also a respected member of my community. I mention this only because of the value of this car and so that prospective buyers will have some idea as to who they are dealing with. Also, please check out my eBay feedback that is at 100% with (1,182) transactions. Many of my transactions have been muscle/classic cars, which I have sold to individuals all over the country as well as Canada, England, France, Switzerland, Germany, Australia and the Netherlands. My reputation for honesty is well known amongst muscle car lovers. Just some quick history on the Plymouth Duster The Plymouth Duster debuted in late 1969 as a 1970 model and was a sporty version of the Plymouth Valiant. The Duster featured curvy exterior styling and a rounded fastback look for the rear. The front end was the same as the Valiant. The interior was pure Valiant. The Duster was available with a variety of engines, ranging from two slant six cylinder engines to either a 318 V8 or a high performance 340 V8 rated at 275 bhp. It was the 340 V8, coupled with the Duster’s extremely low price that made it a hit. The base price was a mere $2,172 (only a little more than the 1960 Valiant) and included just the 198 Slant Six, a column mounted three speed manual transmission, and manual brakes and steering. However, any performance buyer would go straight to the 340 V8 option. For a mere $400, this option added the 340 V8 with four barrel carb, dual exhausts, floor mounted three-speed manual transmission, a 3.23:1 rear axle, a heavy duty suspension with larger diameter torsion bars, extra leaf springs, front stabilizer bar, front disc brakes, and a unique instrument panel that included a tachometer and 150 mph speedometer. At a total price of just $2,547, the Plymouth Duster 340 was much cheaper than either a Plymouth Road Runner ($2,900) or Mustang Mach I ($3,300). 1973 saw the Duster 340 lose its unique grille and all Dusters received a new grille, bringing them in line with other A-body cars. The taillights were changed, and the old sleek bumpers were replaced with bulky bumpers to meet the new federally mandated 5 mph standard. A new model, the Space Duster, was added. This model featured a fold down rear seat and folding trunk separator which resulted in over 50 cubic feet of cargo space. 1973 Production: 1973 Engines: 225 I6 145 bhp. 318 V8 230 bhp. 340 V8 240 bhp @ 4800 rpm, 290 lb-ft @ 3600 rpm. (SAE Net) 1976 would be the last year of the A-body Dusters. The Duster name would continue on, but they would be on the F-body platform and resemble Volares. Check out my video here: IMG 4113 - YouTube Video will open in a new window [isdntekvideo] And now for my friend’s 1973 Plymouth Duster Sport that I am selling here today on eBay. I want to be right up front with everyone about this particular Duster. It is far from mint but the price is far from what you would pay for a mint Duster as well. Originally a slant six, it has been converted to a 340 Clone. The Duster now runs with a rebuilt (we believe) 318ci, 4bbl engine with headers and an automatic. There is no longer a trim tag or door tag attached but when looking at the VIN, it is verified as a true Duster Sport. Look at all of the photos and video and decide if this Duster is where you want to enter the Mopar community. Starts, drives and runs great. VIN Number: VL29C3B561583 VIN Number Decode: · V Plymouth Duster · L Low Price Class · 29 2-Door Sport Hardtop · C 225ci, 1-1bbl · 3 1973 Model Year · B Hamtramck, MI Assembly Plant · 561583 Sequence Number (VIN) Exterior: The green paint looks very nice but does have some imperfections. The white 340 side stripe really sets it off. The Duster does appear to have had quarters at some point but we are just not sure when. All windows are in good working condition. The front bumper is good but the rear bumper needs work. The tires look very good and are mounted on nice rally rims. Exterior items work such as: · Head lights (high and low); · Tail lights; · Blinkers (driver’s front needs a bulb); · Wipers. Interior: The interior needs work as the photos will show. There are a few rips or tears in the seats. Door panels are their but not great. Passenger’s door is missing the arm rest. The dash does have a crack. The headliner needs to be replaced. All gauges are functional as well as the heater. The horn is not working. The radio has static but no sound but the new antenna may not be connected. The seat belts are all there and working. Engine: What can I say about the 318ci V8 except it is a sweet little engine. It starts and runs great. No smoking or funny noises. The owner was told that the engine had been rebuilt and had very few miles on it. Simply can’t verify that. Trunk; Clean and mostly rust free with the spare and jack assembly in place. Does need a new trunk mat. Undercarriage; The undercarriage looks good with a few areas of rust through that are typical for these A Bodies. The exhaust sounds and looks to be in good condition. Brakes are in good working condition as are the suspension items. Please look at the photos of the undercarriage and see for yourself. FYI: The owner does not have a Maine title for this 1973 Plymouth Duster Sport as Maine does not issue titles for vehicles that are more than (15) years old. The car will come with a Bill-of-Sale, the Maine Registration signed over to the new owner and a copy of the Maine law regarding titles which is on a form issued by the Maine Motor Vehicle Department THANKS FOR READING THIS AD. GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY BIDDING.
