Vehicle Detail

Exceptionally presentable 1972 VW Bus - Full Original German Westfalia Camper I don't use the word exceptional lightly here. This bus has been very responsibly refurbished/restored with a tasteful eye to keeping true to its original form. 1972 is arguably the best overall year for the Bay Window era of VW busses, and among that by far, were those examples offered in the original orange color you see here. 72 offered the more appealing classic 'early bay' body style and top, as well as the much more desirable so42 interior set up which just screams nostalgia, all while still offering the more powerful pancake motor, front disc brakes, and other reliable upgrades to the earlier models. There is no other car more quintessential to the 70's camping, road trip, live and let live vibe than can be found in this exact bus. Be it a hot rod cruise night, a custom tuner car show, a backwoods camp ground, or your local petrol station... you are bound to steal the attention and the hearts of anyone within distance to get a closer look at this thing. An old Westfalia Camper is absolutely more than a classic car, it's a lifestyle opportunity. It's the admission ticket into an incredible brotherhood of "VW people" out there that have a genuine interest in sharing like minded values, stories, and a lending hand to keep you and your bus on the road for years and miles to come. I proudly introduce to you, Mrs. Clementine. Artfully named after the whimsical character in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (A must watch if you haven't seen it) As the pictures will show, the bus is in great shape overall and is super solid and super original. The paint is stunning in person and in the correct color per the m-code from factory and the original paint can be found in many areas throughout. The bus prior to its respray started from an extremely dry non rusted out bus, and was brought to a much more presentable and appropriate finished look when refurbished. 80% of other buses listed online in the US, never mind the North East are going to have rust issues that are costly and unsafe where this bus is simply not rotten, and has been original and unrepaired in those regards. The body restoration was largely aesthetic as this bus has no evidence of frame work, wheel well rust, dog leg rot etc.. which are areas all too commonly found like swiss cheese on most you'll inspect. It's truly a rare find. The idea behind this project was to tackle every aspect of it over the last year to get it ready for long trips and car show entries. There have been several thousands of dollars spent in recent work on not only the body and interior, but most importantly many of the mechanical aspects including but not limited to: New brakes, lines, and master cylinder, entirely new front beam, spindle to spindle, steering box, and suspension components. This bus tracks down the road like it should and not the ship wheeled billboard most do :) Most of the work was all done by a long time aircooled VW specific mechanic and local 'airhead hero'. All this said the project took a back seat before being quite 100% ready for cross country motoring. The motor runs strong, exhaust sounds correct, but there are some kinks to sort in final carb/timing adjustments, and some random little electrical work (a light or two, radio, etc.) that still remain. With all of the money that went into the rest of the work done to get this bus to the point it is at, and another car that needs the garage space for the winter, funds and time simply ran out and its time to let it meet the finish line with a new owner. Mind you, the bus runs down the road, and steers and stops better than most, is one of THE NICEST looking buses you'll ever see, but I want to be candid so whomever winds up caring for it has the right experience from the get go. Inside of a weekend or so if you're willing to get familiar with it, and she would be ready to hit the longest of road trips for miles of smiles no question! I mention this especially in anticipation for those emails I expect from folks asking "I live in Alaska, can I pay you and drive it home?!" because they are inevitable! (exaggerating for effect, but not really!) Get to know the bus and then by all means, that's what they are built for!!! This advice goes for anyone, buying any classic, in any condition. The days of finding a bus like this, in this condition, for anything near a reasonable price are if not gone, soon to be. This particular example is more than an accessory, its an investment. Our Mrs. Clementine offered here is WAY ahead of the game in almost every department, and will undoubtedly make any luck bidder the envy of collectors and motorists alike, whilst becoming a significant part of the family that offers a home to her, hopefully for several years to come! I have a bunch of more pictures on hand for those interested but unable to see it in person, and am always available to answer questions so please ask! Papers come with the car, along with any service records collected for the work performed, and a few odds and ends to help you on your way. For those of you that have never owned a classic car please do your research, this bus is a fantastic example but I don’t want somebody to buy this and expect it to drive like a 2017 VW Jetta. It is a classic antique vehicle that is a ton of fun to drive and like any classic on the road it will have its quirks. That said, this bus is a great way to get into your first classic car- easy to get reliable, iconic, priced well, very collectable, and arguably one of the most simple cars to work on in history. Everybody you meet will have a story they want to share with you, and the VW community is very large and friendly should you ever need a hand. Just to be clear, the camping accessories and whatnot that are shown in the pictures with the bus are not included, and obviously it is sold in as is condition. I have also promised the small stool to a friend for letting me use his garage, so that stays with the accessories. Current mileage on the bus shows under 60 thousand miles! Local inspections are welcomed and encouraged, but please do so prior to bidding. $1,000 deposit via Paypal is due within 24 hours and is non refundable. The remainder of the balance must be made via wire transfer, cash in person, check (upon clearing)... wire is easiest and therefore preferred. Paypal just charges too much in fees for me to accept full payment on, unless you also want to cover those than OK with me of course. Shipping cost is buyer's responsibility. Willing to work with shipping company to help coordinate pickup. I am an honest guy and will answer any questions you have. I truly want the buyer to enjoy this bus and be very happy with what they get. Buy it now is priced very fair, nothing else comparable for the $18K range. Since the buy it now option disappears early and costs $50 to add to the listing! Please just message me and we can make a deal. Bus is for sale locally as well and has been generating a lot of interest, therefore I reserve the right to end the auction early for a local buyer. Also due to the lovely number of scams and click happy window shoppers and such, I have set up the auction to forbid new members to eBay or those with otherwise poor feedback etc. If you're one of those, but have a genuine interest in the bus just shoot me a message and we can discuss.
