THE GOOD:This is not the original engine; it has 100k less on it than the chassis, so < 300k.GLS model: heated leather, 2 way sunroof, center armrest, etc.Good tires, brakes, regular maintenance and oil changes w/Rotella T6 full synthetic.120V 150W oil pan preheater.Fully equipped to flat tow with Roadmaster 521228-1 base plates and hard wired, diode protected integral tail lights (tow bar NOT included). If you slow down a little, you get almost 50.EGR and cooler removed and bypassed.minimal rust in the usual spots: edge of front wheel wells, above windshield in center, right side of tailgate (this is the worst of it...see the photo).All kinds of new parts: battery, alternator, rack and pinion, a/c condenser and receiver drier, control arm, ball joints, ...on and on. THE BAD:Needs a turbocharger. It ran away while driving but was shut down fast. Oil level fine; engine rotated by hand.Crack in the windshield (new windshield from Safelite ~$200).Interior is in fair condition; worn spots on front seats leather have been artfully taped over. Carpet has stains.Pass side headlight loose.Airbag light is on.Shifter has become pretty sticky over the years and could use adjustment and/or lubeMisc. scratches and dings, broken plastic, chipped paint on pass front fender. Bondo on front edge of hood. THE UGLY:It's a VW so it goes without saying that the door hardware SUCKS. Driver side front exterior handle and/or latching mechanism needs to be replaced. Pass side front lock has never worked and electric window is intermittent. How, I ask, can they make such a great engine and have NEVER been able to manufacture durable door hardware?
