Offered for sale is this very original Monza Blue 1972 BMW R75/5 toaster tank twin. I got this machine from the original owner. He toured all the lower 48 States with it before parking it in 1985 to raise a family. For about 10 years he started it a few times a year, but then the battery maintenance just got to be too much, so it has just been sitting since then. So what you're getting is a time capsule from the mid 1980s. Just to check things, I borrowed a small battery and put it in the bike to power things up. The lights and turn signals all worked, along with the brake light. There was a nice fat spark at the spark plug lead. I remembered that the cylinders had been fogged with oil to keep things safe, so I put in a fresh set of spark plugs in and the bike started right up after just a few kicks. Other than the replacement mufflers, grips and later model exhaust header rings, the bike is very original. Even the one year only seat is still there and not recovered with an aftermarket touring seat, which is often the case. The bike still has the old original equipment Everbest petcocks, and the center stand still has the original toe tab - still intact. The inside of the tank is not rusty. This machine would be a pretty easy project for someone looking to restore a /5. The R75/5 was the top-of-the-line bike back then, and the toaster tank twins have become the quintessential BMWs of this period. So here is your chance to get a nice one. This is an all matching serial number bike, which comes with a clear title in my name. Also included with the bike are the original tire pump, owners manual and service book, and tool kit.
