Vehicle Detail

Offered for sale is this first year R100RS. This is one of the first 200 bikes built (#160) for the US market, which means it came with the Euro spec engine and 40mm carbs and 40mm Zeuna exhaust (both still present). The first year RS's are extremely collectible, and the 40mm bikes are the best of the best. This one has been loved and enjoyed over the years, and is ready for an easy restoration. The bike came with a folder of receipts going back to the early 1980s and running up to a few years ago, so it was well cared for along the way. Just the top 4 receipts in the photo total up to almost $1,800 in parts and labor. Most of the receipts are from BMW dealers, with a few from independent shops for tires, oil, etc. In addition to the wheels on the bike, it includes a near NOS set of original blue stripe wheels, which were taken off another new 1977 R100RS when the owner fitted his bike with accessory mag wheels after buying his bike. These are probably the single hardest part to find for these old bikes, because they are one year only, and most have 40 years of dings & tire iron marks on them. Not these. The bike has all matching numbers and clear title. The original silver color was painted over years ago with what appears to be Madison Silver, as used on the early K100RS models, so someone along the way seemed to really prefer this other BMW color. The bike does still have the original 3/4 solo seat, which is also desirable. And this seat is the early style as well, with the screw on hinges (later ones had riveted hinges). The blue anodizing on the front brake calipers is still nice and bright. The left & right upper fairing panels have some cosmetic damage, but nothing that can't be easily fixed before painting - and they are still the original date code correct parts with the factory matching-vin decal on the back (see photo). This vin decal was only done on the very early machines. The lower fairing panels are also not cut - which many owners did to make removal easier in the hot weather. The bike was running and riding until last year. Since then it has just been sitting in my collection waiting for restoration. Please ask all questions before bidding. Motorcycle must be paid for within one week of auction end, and must be picked up/shipped within one month of auction end. Overseas sales are no problem, but I cannot help with shipping quotes. Personal checks accepted, but this will delay pickup/shipping. Sorry no Paypal, unless the Friends & Family option is used, which has no fees on either end if coming from a Paypal balance or checking account. The bike does not move until it's paid for, no exceptions. Good luck! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Thanks for the offers so far. Some have been close. Don't be offended if I decline an offer - doing a counter offer locks the auction from changes until it expires (48 hours), so I don't use that feature very often. But if you're close I'll put a note in with the decline. $3,500 will buy the bike for those who have asked.
