Vehicle Detail

2006 Honda Accord 6-speed, 6 Cylinder (V6) sedan. This is the top-of-line model (arguably) of the 7th generation Accords; it is a pleasure to drive it. The color combination -- silver exterior with grey, black and chrome accent interior is a favorite. The car is in great shape except for two BIG problems. Car was originally from Florida and Georgia so essentially rust free, most everything works and drives good. However, it has a dented area and most importantly needs to have the engine fixed. I am relisting this vehicle due to an insincere bidder. The Good:Suspension and steering are sound: Original shocks/struts work well. Front Lower Control arms and sway bar endlinks were replaced at 141,000 miles. Ball joints and tie rod ends are good. CV axles are good.Car drives very nicely.Everything works with the exception of items noted below.Transmission and clutch work properly.Rust Free -- Southern car until 2012New Tires: Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 Brand purchased last summer. Two tires have 9/32" tread depth and two have 8.5/32" tread depth. (Original tread depth on these tires is 10/32 when new).Loaded with Leather, AM/FM/CD XM sound system, Stability and Traction Control, Sunroof, full power, HomeLink.AC and Heater, Climate Control work perfectly.Seat Heaters work. Power Seats work. Sunroof works.Wipers and washer work. Wiper blades are good.Brakes are in good shape, recent brake pad change all-around.Clutch was replaced at 145,000 milesNew Battery in February 2017I have all maintenance records since 131,000 Miles.Wheels are the OEM wheels. They have been 'plasti-dipped' in Anthracite color, which is a removable spray-on rubber covering. The finish beneath the plastidip is silver and their cosmetic condition is cracked finish and faded. Wheels are sound, straight and undamaged.Paint is in pretty good condition. Previous owner appears to have repainted the car and did a pretty nice job. So, the paint is not faded like other Hondas of this age.The interior trim is carbon fiber look from the factory. I think this is only available on the V6 manual version of the car, and it adds an upscale look to the car.V6 VTEC Motor and 6-speed manual --> car is fast!17 Inch factory alloy wheels.Private Party seller (I am not a car dealer). Illinois residents pay only $25 sales tax to Illinois when registering the vehicle. If you were to buy the same car from a dealer, then you would pay at least 6.25% tax. The Bad:Dented Left Rear. (See Images). Hit/Run driver, while changing lanes, dented the rear door and quarter panel and cracked the corner of the bumper cover. Insurance didn't cover it, so I replaced the door with one from a Florida junkyard and replaced the bumper cover with a pre-painted one from a reputable ebay vendor. I left the quarter panel unrepaired. Color of the door does not quite match and it has its own scratches, please see images. (Note: no airbag deployment from this incident). This is the only accident that the car has been involved with.Engine consumes oil. The catalytic converter at the rear of the engine (one of the two 'pre-cats') failed and pieces were ingested into the 3 rear cylinders resulting in excessive oil consumption. Car starts and runs fine, has good power but smokes a little all the time and a lot at moderate (3/4) throttle acceleration. Usually not a lot of smoke at full-throttle acceleration through the gears. Cannot see any smoke in the mirror when going down the highway but you can lay down some smoke when pulling away from the stop light. There is also some engine knocking, either in the valve train or bottom end, not super loud but it is noticeable. I have put on perhaps 350 miles in this condition and it seems like it will run this way indefinitely, but it burns a lot of oil and the engine should be rebuilt or swapped with a used one. Oil usage is about 1 QT per 75 miles around town, believed to be significantly less at highway (75mph) speeds. Both pre-catalytic converters have been hollowed out. In order to comply emissions, these should be replaced. The third catalytic converter is still intact and in good shape. The check engine light is not on, but it probably will be soon. The right rear tail light does not completely light up. Some of the LEDS are out (see image). Still plenty bright, but if many more go out, you'll need to replace the LEDS.The rear window defroster does not work. The little lines on the glass are cut in several areas. Best fix is to replace the rear window.Normal wear and tear, nicks, scratches and stone chips.Minor wear and tear on seating surfaces, please see images.Fabric on the rear pillar trim is starting to come loose. Minor, can re-smooth by hand, but looks like eventually it will sag. I have not noticed any sagging of the headliner.Wear and tear on leather-wrapped steering wheel. Not a big deal, but it would look better if it were to be refinished.Clutch pedal rubber cover could use replacing as it is showing wear. MISCELLANEOUSThis vehicle is not for sale locally. Ebay has many engines for sale that would fit.Any V6 from a 2003-2007 Accord will work. The Honda designation for this motor is J30A5, which was used in the 2006 and 2007 accords. The Honda designation for the 2003-2005 motor is J30A4. This engine will also fit and has similar power and torque to the J30A5.An engine from an automatic transmission car will work as a replacement, they are the same as the manual car. From my research: an Acura 3.2 motor appears to be an easy drop-in upgrade. A 3.5 requires a lot of work to get running right. Either would be fun to drive.
