Vehicle Detail
I'm going to start by listing all the known problems with this car. I drove this car for about a year and a half before I got a wagon that better suits my needs. I kept this one as a backup, but now its just getting in the way. The bad: the clear coat is peeling. makes the car ugly as hellthere are two dents. they're in the picture, but don't photograph well. both came with the car. the guy I bought it from says they came from a snow plow when the car was parked. leaks oil, I think from either the turbo return or air cleaner return. leaks power steering fluid, not sure from where. sunroof doesn't close entirely. it opens and closes as it should with the switch, but doesn't raise to seal against the roof at the end of closing. does NOT leak in the rain, so I never bothered trying to fix it. all 5 tires are bad. my wagon burns through tires due to bad suspension, so I used these as spares. this car does not use up tires, but its also not a wagon, so I can't load it with as much stuff as I need.accelerator pedal is missing. drives just fine without the pedal. sometimes rolls for a bit before the parking pawl engages. I think this is due to bad shifter bushings, which are apparently cheap and easy to replace according to the internet. never became a big enough problem for me to dig into.the rubbery fibery discs that are used in place of u-joints on the drive shaft are starting to show wear. I bought replacements but never installed them. new parts come with the car.passenger seatbelt receiver doesn't engage/click.rear doors sometimes takea few attempts to fully close. something to do with the strikers. sometimes after driving for a while, the transmission doesn't want to shift into revers or park right away. usually only takes 30 or so seconds in neutral before it'll work. some sort of safety valve in the transmission isn't releasing properly. a good trans flush might solve it.block heater doesn't workinterior is in rough shapeprobably some other things I'm forgetting. The good:Starts, runs, drives, and stops reliably. new fuel filters. recent brakes. motor doesn't seem to have been too terribly abused. I kept up on oil/filter changes. does not appear to have all the vacuum leaks that usually plague these cars. consistantly gave me about 24mpg with mostly 70(ish)mph highway driving. surprisingly little rust for a car thats lived in nj/pa for 32 years. newer euro style headlights and corner marker lights came with the car. good candidate to either fix the minor problems and keep driving or pull the motor to drop in your toy of choice. please ask questions. car can be driven onto a trailer or flatbed wrecker. tires do hold air, but I wouldn't trust them for any real distance. buyer responsible for picking up. I will not ship. clean PA title in my name. no warranties expressed or implied. obviously this is an old car, things break. bear in mind there is nothing more expensive than a cheap mercedes. this would make a great introduction to these bulletproof engines. might be a cool demo derby car. I just need it out of my way.
