Vehicle Detail
1986 Porsche 944. Very stock, always garaged. A solid example with starting price based on maintenance needs (detailed below). Purchased in 2006 with 134,000 miles, now at around 143,500 miles. Driven on weekends in spring, summer, and fall, with occasional time as a daily driver. In winter was started and run to operating temperature every week or two. Exterior is Garnet Red Metallic, which looks burgundy, red, or red-violet/wine depending on light conditions. Varied daylight in photos attempts to demonstrate this. Paint has chips which are visible in the photos, also bubbling at bottom of passenger side, and rust above rear license plate area. Very faint crease in nose panel between passenger headlight and hood emblem, and a scratch/faint crease on passenger wheel well. Phone dial wheels with locks, Yokohama Avid H4S 215/60 R15 tires with less than 10,000 miles. Interior is burgundy. Drivers seat has tears as seen in photo. Steering wheel leather is very worn with stitching separated in areas, and appears to have been painted in past. Top of dash has minor cracks. Includes basic floor mats, sunroof bag, rear cargo cover (present but not inspected) compact spare, Coleman portable air compressor, jack, tool kit, and manuals. AC does not blow cold. Cruise control does not work. Sunroof limit switch does not stop arm retraction (release switch when roof has closed). Original Blaupunkt AM/FM cassette radio with three working preset buttons. Non-smoker owner. Click here for service history. Car starts, runs, and always drove well, but recently steering leak and resulting pump noise lead to inspection by Porsche specialist. Issues noted were leaking rack, worn control arms, small oil leak of undetermined location, and hole in muffler. When oil leak is investigated, timing and balance shaft belts could be replaced (just 6,000 miles on current belts, but installed in 2007). Rennbay and Vertex Automotive have cost-effective replacement control arms. Rack is relatively inexpensive from many sources. Many exhaust options. Click here for parts sources.
