To find a W123 Mercedes-Benz 240D in this state of preservation is a lucky find but to find one with a manual gearbox is virtually impossible. This 1983 example has been lovingly cared for by its two owners and is ready to enjoy for many years of reliable driving. The car was originally owned by a doctor and after 12 years of ownership it was sold to its current owner who has taken excellent care of the car never using it in rain or snow. And it shows, in original Midnight blue (DB904) paint the body is virtually blemish free and the chrome and rubber seem to defy age. The paint holds a good shine and is not thin anywhere on the car. There is a small 1.5” spot of surface rust on the driver’s side below the front bumper (pictured). The jack points and undercarriage are rust free. With the chrome hubcaps the car has a stately appearance that would do well in preserved class concourse shows. On the interior, originality is preserved with the original Becker radio with functioning tape deck. The wood trim and dash look factory fresh. With a light patina on the Palomino MB-Tex the car exudes an ageless quality that is enjoyable to behold and of course to drive. All of the controls function with exception of the cruise control which is a common issue on the series. The throttle linkage is tight and the brakes are very solid. There’s also a sunroof on the car making summer cruising even more enjoyable. With a tight front end and solid suspension the car drives as new. The only issue to note on the interior is that the first aid kit door on the rear shelf of the car is cracked down the middle. The seller decided to keep this to ensure 100% originality. In the trunk you’ll see the cleanliness and preservation continue. With the original spare in the boot, complete tool kit and Jack the truck is complete with clean carpet (one small stain that can be cleaned) Currently the vehicle has 146,356 miles on the legendary OM616 I4 diesel motor which is known to in many cases run for over a million miles without rebuild. Coupled to the five speed manual allows the driver to have ultimate control over the torque provided by the powerplant. The engine bay is tidy with a new battery and no sign of oil seepage. While it could use an engine detail the new owner of this vehicle would be proud to open the hood and show off to other enthusiasts. Overall this is an excellent specimen of a car that is an icon of the Mercedes-Benz marque and of a degree of originality that puts this vehicle in the top 1% of W123 series.
