Vehicle Detail
We have decided that it has come time to part with my wife's SLK230. We've had it for 10 years, but replaced it last year, and now it is just sitting. The good: This car starts and runs well, and is fast and lots of fun to drive. When I decided to relist the car, I did have to charge the battery to get it started, but it took the charge and started right up. It was my wife's everyday driver until we replaced it with a nearly identical car (right down to color!). Many new parts, and many items (power windows, heated seats, etc.) work as they should (see "the bad", listed below, for the exceptions). Body is in very good condition, with many new or newer parts. This would make a great project car, or it can be driven as a fun little coupe every day with a little work. It could also be a very good parts car, but I'd hate to see it parted out. My original intent was to repair the items listed below, but when another identical car crossed my path, we elected to replace it instead. The bad: The biggest issue: the hydraulic pump for the convertible top developed a sudden leak, rendering the folding top inoperable. Thankfully, it is currently stuck in the completely closed (top up) position. I bought a replacement pump on ebay, which is included in this listing, but never completed the installation. Other issues: The accessory air pump in the trunk failed, typical for this model, and has been removed. The only system that it operates is the power door locks (and, consequently, the anti-theft alarm), but the doors still lock and unlock manually. The radio and rear defroster have never worked. This vehicle's inspection expired in July, 2015, and, aside from starting and occasionally fueling it, it has not been driven since. All of the indicator lights on the dash are lit, but that seems to happen every time the battery runs down. The ugly: This is a nice looking car! There is not much cosmetically wrong with her other than a couple of split seams on the driver's seat, and the chrome finish on the wheels is peeling with age. Also, the headliner fabric has started to droop since the last time I drove her. As I said, this is a great little project car for someone that has the time to work on it...
