Vehicle Detail

Offered for sale is this nice original paint 1972 BMW R75/5. I purchased this bike from the estate of the original owner, who was an airline pilot. The bike is finished in Curry Metallic, newly introduced for 1972, and which I have since found out from an old time dealer that this was the rarest color sold on the /5's. Passed by for ages, the Toaster tank /5's are now considered the quintessential BMWs of the period, and they have become highly sought after. And the 750cc machines like this one are the top-of-the-line version of that bike. Other than the stainless exhaust and the aftermarket large capacity oil pan, this machine is in surprisingly original condition, and deserves to be restored back to a 100 point bike. Even most all of the fasteners and clamps are still original equipment, along with the correct CAD plated front and rear turn signal mounts. The first owner epoxied a Triumph luggage rack to the top of the tank, but otherwise the tank appears to be in great condition, with no rust at all inside - it looks like new in there. Unlike most of the sellers out there who like to squeeze an extra $200 out of a bike by stripping off all the accessories, this bike includes the factory tool kit and tire pump. It also includes a new seat cover (not shown) that I purchased in Europe. Already fitted to the bike are two NOS battery side covers that are original BMW and fresh out of the wrappers. This is a matching engine/frame/frame ID tag bike with a clear matching title in my name, ready to transfer to the new owner. As near as I can tell, the bike has been off the road for about 8-10 years. It is not currently running, but kicks over just fine. It was covered in a thick layer of dust when I got it, but when I washed it off I was pleased to find that the original paint was still shining after these 44 years - even under the seat (see photo). The seat is also the correct one-year-only short wheelbase with one piece grab rail. Please ask all questions before bidding, and have your finances lined up too. Payment is expected with 7 days of auction end, and the bike should be picked up/shipped within one month of auction end (negotiable - but let me know what you have in mind before bidding). Overseas sales are welcome, but I cannot help with shipping quotes. Personal checks are fine, but this will delay pickup/shipment. Paypal payment ONLY if you agree to use the Friends and Family option (which has no fees for you either, if you are paying from a checking account or Paypal balance). Good luck!
