Vehicle Detail
Beautiful originally restored 1971 Westfalia Camper Weekender Edition This Westfalia is a true California Car from San Diego, CA. It has never seen any rust. No rust repair had to be done prior to the restoration. Went through a one-year restoration. Completed January 2016. Everything was rebuilt as a original as you can be for a 1971 Westfalia. The bus is getting a lot of compliments and people love the color combination, which is original for this year: Nigara blue and white (only 71,72), I even found the original curtains (mustard yellow and brown). Please WATCH HD VIDEO ABOVE AND CONTACT ME FOR ADDITIONAL PICTURES. I HAVE OVER 70 HIGH QUALITY PHOTOS AVAILABLE. Interior: - Closet cabinet restored with amber pear wood veneer, original handles, knobs and cabinet edging trim were purchased from Wolfsburg West. Both doors are functioning well. The interior wood of the closet is painted in white and the floor and metal areas are covered with black carpet. - Sink restored with amber pear wood veneer, original handles from Wolfsburg West used. The interior wood of the sink is painted in white. New vent tube and vent tube cap was installed. Small side tables are fully functional. Edges of small tables and sink itself got new T-Moldings from Wolfsburg West. It has the original camper van sticker on the right side. - Table goes up and down nicely and is 100% functional. It's kept original and got new edging trim. - Stool was restored in amber pear wood veneer. It has a lot of extra storage space underneath the seat. The interior wood underneath the seat was painted in white. There is a second storage space in the back of the seat which can be reached from above. Perfect to store newspapers, magazine, or tablets… - Z Bed cabinet has the original Westfalia sticker on the bottom left corner. It is restored with amber pear wood veneer. It has a storage compartment underneath the bench. The wood inside was painted in white. The metal part of the compartment are covered with black carpet. Two two point seat belts were installed and can be hidden underneath the bench if not needed. Z Bed is fully functionally and folds down to a good sized bed. - Cushions of stool, two bench cushions, trunk cushions as well as spare tire cover were made by a local professional upholstery store. The color matched the original mustard yellowish upholstery color perfectly. Materials such as zippers, knobs, air release holes are probably better than the factory one when the bus was built in Germany in 1971. Front seat upholstery in black. - Brand new carpet in rear, center and back. Carpet in front is black. Carpet in center is grey. Carpet in rear underneath cushion is black. Carpet in back and front is not glued so that you can see body underneath (See rust free body in restoration pictures). - Headliner in front center and rear restored with amber pear wood veneer. It takes a lot of work and time to restore and install the headliners. - Panels right and left in front, left in center as well as in sliding door restored with amber pear wood veneer. - Center camper windows are fully functional and open and close nicely. Knobs were replaced with brand new original knobs from Wolfsburg West. - Sliding door has new doorhandles from Wolfsburg West. - The original 71 Westfalia camper curtains in brown and mustard yellow are really hard to find. I found a person in Canada who was able to provide the original fabric and knobs. Front curtain is one peace and covers windshield and right and left front window. Rear window has a two peace sliding curtain system. Curtains on the left side of bus are 4 peaces. On the right side, there is one curtain behind the cabinet and one for the sliding door. - The bus has the rare original radio cover. I chose not to install a radio yet. There are so many buses with aftermarket radios and speakers all over the cabinets that take away from the originality of the bus. It is really easy to install a radio into this bus. I thought it is the best to leave it up to the new owner how he or she would like to have the entertainment set up. - For your safety, of course this bus has a brand new fire extinguisher behind the drivers seat. - It also comes wit a beautiful VW bus keychain that matches the colors of the bus (see photos). Its a high quality keychain licensed by Volkswagen. Many more brand brand new or fully refurbished parts… Exterior - Paint job in beautiful color combination. Nigara blue L53D and white. This is the original color combination for the 71 Westfalia bus. You can find all original color combination on the Samba website. - All windows are clear and in great condition. Windshield was replaced with brand new windshield and sealing. - New sliding door window seal, new rear hatch door seal, many more new seals. Good quality German seals were used. - New original antenna installed. - Original VW emblem installed in front and painted in white. This is the original emblem for a T2a (not a cheap reproduction). - Black rims with nice original chrome caps. - The odometer reading is 37700 miles. - The engine was rebuilt a couple of years ago and I started the body and interior restoration one year ago at about 37200 miles. I installed a new carburetor this month. The engine is very clean and fires up right away. It shifts smoothly through all gears. It drives great, shifts smoothly through all gears. The bus makes 75mph on the highway easily, but what it does best is getting all the looks when cruising by the beach ;-). - Nice chrome dual exhaust system. - Nice black mud flaps right and left with vw emblem in white. - 2 sets of original keys were made by locksmith. More information: - Title is clear. All DMV fees paid till May 2016 - Uncountable hours went into the original restoration of this bus to make it the way it is right now. - "1968-1979 VW campers were the Type 2 Bus: These models were also referred to as the "Bay Window Bus," or “Bread-Loaf Bus," or simply “VW Bus” Westfalia campers. A nice used example will run between $2500 and $4500. A totally restored one can cost anywhere from $25,000 to $40,000. As compared to the Vanagon and Eurovan, the Bus camper is agruably the most charming camp of models." (quote from Gowesty website…/camper-model-overview.php) - The 1971 Volkswagen Type 2 is the last year of the T2a series (68-71), which most enthusiast desire over the T2b series, which was built from 1972 to 1979. However, the 71 is the first year that featured powered front disc brakes, which makes an amazing difference in stopping the bus. These facts make the 1971 models especially valuable within the type 2 series. - I have the bus safely stored in a underground parking garage. - I tried to describe the bus as good and detailed as possible.
