As sad as it makes us, it is time to part ways with our 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport. We recently sold our house in upstate NY and have not needed the vehicle in the city. This Jeep has 161,240 miles on it, and has been very dependable for us. The Pros: This Jeep has been driven and serviced regularly and has never left us on the side of the road. Interior is clean, looks good. 4.0 engine, six cylinder automatic transmission. Four-wheel drive works great, 4 tires are one year old, power steering is good. Doesn't burn oil. Brakes are good. Gets decent in-town mileage, even better on the highway. Electric windows all work fine. AM/FM/Cassette/CD stereo works fine except for front right speaker in the door. Classic body design. Some cons: AC does not work. Heater is weak, but works. Once in a while, the Jeep does not want to go into 4th gear. When this happens, we pull over, shut off, restart, and shifting works fine. There is a bit of rust on the driver's side door and back bumper, but it is solid. Roof paint is blemished, but not rusted out. One thing to know is that this vehicle survived some flood damage after Superstorm Sandy. We put $2400 into at that time on repairs to get it running again. Since then, we've had a few minor fixes along the way, and it's back to normal and running strong. We have taken several long trips since the flood with no problem at all. As of last month, the Jeep did not pass NY State inspection. Runs great with no apparent problems, but it didn't pass a couple of codes: • PO705 - the code for the neutral safety switch, a common problem with Jeeps • PO455 - a vacuum hose with a leak in the E-vap system. Both easy fixes. About 2-3 hundred dollars and you're ready to go, but not guaranteed to pass (if your state does not require annual inspection, you're in luck).
