Vehicle Detail

1965 Chevrolet Corvair Convertible This Corvair is so much fun to drive and gets tons of looks, compliments and thumbs up when I drive this car. This car has been garage kept its entire life and the underneath side really proves that. I found this car in the beginning of 2015 off of Craiglist and it ended up being kept just down a few houses from where I reside. It was owned by a 95 year old gentleman since the 70's. He told me that it was his hobby to go out to the garage and restore the Corvair. The entire car was completely disassembled, stripped and repainted. All of the suspension components were stripped as well during the restoration and painted black. All new bushings etc. were replaced during that time. This car is a very solid and dry car inside and out. You can tell no patchwork has was done to the floors or trunk area. It is a very solid car and 99% rust free. The top is original but the outside of it has been dyed and looks very nice and presentable. The back plastic window is a little foggy and you can tell it is original. Everything works on the car like it should. Yes, the AM Radio works! The wipers, lights, turn signals, brights, reverse lights and heater work great. It has a new blower motor installed as well. It heats the inside pretty quick and you will be taking off your jacket in no time. The windshield has been replaced and is in great condition and appears new without the windshield wiper marks or anything. All the windows roll up and down very nice and smooth. Most of the weatherstripping has been replaced on the car around the doors, vent windows, hood and trunk. The doors also have new window felt and sweeps on them. The door shut nice and have a great "thud" sound like a solid old car should sound when shutting the doors. The engine is a 140HP 4 carburetor setup and I was told it is original to the vehicle. The previous owner rebuilt the engine while it was out during the restoration. I just had a local Corvair expert do some fine tuning on the engine and make sure it was ready for any trip. I had him rebuild all four carburetors and got them dialed in. The car starts right up and runs great down the road. It has a new electric fuel pump installed under the car by the fuel tank and bypasses the mechanical fuel pump. It has brand new 17" front and 18" rear Rally style wheels installed on it. The spinner caps are brand new and are period correct with a Chevy bowtie emblem in them. The car has been lowered to achieve the proper stance that I was looking for with the wheel combination. It rides good with newer shocks and cut coils. The steering is nice and tight with no shimmies, shakes or vibrations. It has all new interior in it. The seats frames were completely stripped down and painted prior to the new foam, burlap and new seat covers. It is amazing the quality of a restoration the seats were put through. It has new door panels, arm rests, window cranks, door handles, seat covers and loop carpet. It still has that new carpet smell when you sit in it. It also has a convertible boot top to match the interior color. The color of the interior is Slate Gray and according to Clark's Corvair was a 1965 year specific color and not many were produced. The original interior for the car was black but the previous owner stated he wanted something that would not be so hot in the summer. It has a aftermarket tach installed in the dash. The speedometer and fuel gauge both work as well. I would consider the paint to be a nice acceptable driver quality paint job and is very presentable. It's nothing perfect but cleans up and shines nice in the sun. This is a car you can get in and drive without worrying about walking on eggshells. The paint is not a trailer queen show quality paint job. It has a few very small dings on the rear quarter panel and one on the hood that would be a breeze for someone that does paintless dent removal if it concerned you that much. It has a few paint chips that have been touched up here and there as well including along the door edge. It has a few NOS trim pieces on it and are in nice condition. If you have any questions about the car or would like to see it in person prior to bidding on it... please give me a call at 217-370-0036 I do not need help selling the car and I would entertain a reasonable offer for the car. Please do not waste my time asking me what my "bottom dollar" is or low balling me. I feel that I have priced the car very reasonable compared to others that I have seen sell in the last 6-8 months. These cars are increasing in value and are becoming very desirable in the classic car world. I am willing to assist in meeting a shipping company close to my house if you decide you would like to ship the car instead of picking it up in person. I would not be selling this car but I have too many classics and need to make room. Selling as is and there is no warranty.
