This car is a Barn find which I came across at a body shop locally while i was treasure hunting. I came across this 1974 BMW 2002 with 72K original miles as it is shown by the documentation on California title's picture. The body shop owner had bought this baby from his neighbor a year and half ago and drove it for 23 miles before he decided to repaint it Sahara Beige from the ugly Blue non-BMW paint which it was painted by it's previous owner. They took all the trim including the windshield off and long story short, after repaint the car sat outside unattended for a year and half waiting to be put back together with all the trim inside and a tarp over it !!! I saw the car and when I inquired he showed interest in selling it. After inventorying the all trims, Bumpers, nuts and bolts, we made a deal. I put all the trim, door panels and handles, bumpers, grills, lights and signals back on her, bought new tires and charged the Interstate battery which tested to be very good surprisingly and she immediately started, wow and ran perfect at low idle speed of approximately 600 to 700 RPM. I had the complete interior (meaning new upholstery for the seats to be redone in Blue Vinyl with new carpet and headliner) done by Divine Custom Interiors, also had the new front windshield, gasket, new back glass' gasket installed. Also matching headrests are included in case you desire them, I left them off for a more vintage look. The mileage is documented on the title as actual mileage as shown in the picture of the title provided to be at 59,134 miles as of the reported date of 12/22/2010 and sold as actual mileage of 72,733 miles on 06/27/2014 and I bought it with 72,756 miles also showing as actual mileage on the new California title, (the odometer works) The vehicle is an original Blue plate California car and for patina reasons, I left the plates in their original condition and cleared over them. The Engine is not matching numbers to the VIN number and there are no service records, except the receipts I have for the work done while in my possession. I also replace the Radiator, thermostat and used the Evens water-less coolant after entirely draining all coolant by draining it from the block. (No water needed, no pressure ever) and does not need to be changed for 10 years or 150,000 miles. Replaced the tank fuel line, Axle Boots, oil and filter change and air filter with brake and slave cylinder fluid flush. Paid for a Pioneer 6600 Series with two 4" high quality Memphis speakers with Bluetooth, Bluetooth audio, USB and app capability with your navigation guidance coming through speakers as Bluetooth interface for GPS guidance to your destination among with a remote control. All Window cranks work properly, all though gaskets on the windows are original, they are sufficient. They could use a refresh and parts are available on Ebay for $155.00 for a set. I hate changing these gaskets, it kills my back. All and all the Engine starts right up, the transmission shifts smoothly, the clutch is super smooth and the carburetor is the original BMW dual Solex. There are no leaks from engine or transmission and everything is dry. The engine does not even smoke when started cold and runs very smoothly even after the automatic choke warms it up and the car is driven at highway speeds. It came with an E12 head, I added the 5-Speed transmission. The benefit of the engines with an E12 head is that they are very easily modified for dependable everyday horsepower increase and use, the 5-Speed transmission also helps with acceleration and lower RPM numbers for highway fuel economy and comfort.
