1999 740i,short wheel base. We acquired the car in good running condition and in great looking shape...however,during transportation,waiting at a stop sign,engine just shut off.Initially we tought that it ran out of gas,however,trying to restart it,the starter will spin the fan and the belts,not the engine,so,most likely,the bottom chain snapped. Car had no timing noise/slap at all,what happened its hard to say...maybe the crank bolt let lose or snapped ,or the chain,hard to say before you drop the pan and look inside,car was idling at the stop sign when that occurred,maybe it bent the valves,maybe not...we sell it as is. Very good overall condition,books,2 sets of keys,all equipment works,good tires and brakes,it was a very nice example before the incident. We don't want to invest our time and money to find a used motor and throw it in,or,investigate further and see if the crank bolt is broken and the engine can be saved. NO RESERVE,tow it home.
