I bought this "brick" two years ago to commute from Chicago area to SE Michigan for client work. I wanted something that was reliable, safe, cheap but that had at least a bit of status (I'm in sales development). I've had these cars before and they get just the right attention - classy vintage. These are reliable automobiles with a reputation for safety. I was hoping my step-daughter would want it but she doesn't get cool- yet. Ok, the good: Runs relentlessly. Driven in all weather between Chicago and Detroit with local trips in between. It never stops and is responsive. The color, black, is nice shiny and the interior is a brown leather - no stains on cloth!. AC and Heater work fine. Transmission is tight and acceleration is probably what it was when new in 1989 - kinda ok but not a dragster. Rides very smooth on fine suspension. Mileage is hard to figure as drive mostly on I94. I would guess between 22 and 25. Mechanically very good to excellent. Body, good with potential to for excellent. Now the bad. Nothing about this Volvo 240 is a surprise relative to conditioning. There is one dent in the overhang of the trunk lid. I've had guys offer to fix for $25 a couple of time. Simple repair at the body shop. There is a fine line crack in the dash - very thin - as typical of this model. Frankly, I didn't notice it until after a year. A few of the buttons on the leather trim are gone. Radio antenna's gone. Outside of single dent mentioned, there are small chips on hood and trunk. I was going to touch up but I'm not handy at all. You can do it- they're chips, not dents. The plastic map holders on doors are gone, This is a great car that screams classy, smart. Safety and style of a particular type (Wife and I were on a home tour of large turn of the century, fantastic estates. We counted 4 240's cars in the driveways. Figure it's a fashion thing). For an 1989 regular driver this car is exceptional. The car is for local pick-up only in Arlington Heights, Il and is also listed locally.
