Vehicle Detail

1955 MGA COUPE COMPLETE REVIVED GARAGE FIND RUNNING AND DRIVING 1622CC This car was in a garage on stands for the past 16 years as attested to by previous owner. Last registered 1983. It has an early 1622 engine. This is a detailed description to disclose all I know. Good and bad.VIN is HML43 30193Odometer reads 64,348 miles Was built Glacier Blue for the N. American market. Compression 185, 160, 185, 185.Hot idle oil pressure is 40+ pounds at 1000RPM. Transmission has no chatter, stays in gear, shifts great even on 3-2 downshift. Rear end is quiet. Rolls easily.Clutch is strong. Will idle all day without overheat. Has great torque and power and wants to rev. No leaks of oil or coolant except weep from rear slinger after driving. Some oil smoke under heavy acceleration. I would expect this to improve with driving.FOR REAL "NO RESERVE AUCTION". WHAT I DID:As found the oil was clean and up, fuel tank was drained, had good coolant in it and the cylinders had been oiled. It was not seized, tires had air. I changed engine oil and filter, replaced fuel bowl seals, replaced floats with good used, put in float needles and checked jet centering and dashpot function/oil. Topped off transmission and differential oil. Pumped through fresh fuel (came through clean), pump works. Adjusted valves and replaced valve cover gasket. Changed oil and filter. Engine is super clean inside (see photo). Replaced spark plugs. Removed radiator, drained, and flushed radiator and block. Both were clean. Put in new Zerex Original Formula antifreeze. Replaced sketchy hose clamps. Hoses are all serviceable. Adjusted belt tension. Burnished and set points. Ran engine, balanced and synchronized carbs. Performed compression test. Did a quick hone and re-seal on both sides of master cylinder, clutch slave and replaced clutch hose. Freed rear hand brakes for testing purposes not for regular use. Installed new header pipe flange donut. Pulled the two bad 6 volt batteries and lashed in a small 12 volt. Put car on jack stands, pulled wheels and inspected whole car and cleaned. Ordered small parts and lenses that were missing. Road tested car on hand brake only. Drained fuel tank to inspect and came out clean. WHAT IT NEEDS: Restoration. At a minimum the brakes, master cylinder, tires, wheel bearings, wheels will need doing as well as lights, horn etc. to put into regular service. Seat covers and foam are failing. DETAILS: It is missing the garnish moldings for the front and rear glass. The voltage regulator cover is missing and it does not charge. It has a mechanical Tach with no drive source. An electronic Smiths tach is included. Someone has sandwiched steel plate to the floor boards from below, (see pictures). Except for seats and battery cover, the interior was done with indoor-outdoor carpet. Headliner is black, star pattern with shrink failure over back window corners. There is some frame rust mid car on both sides, (sees pictures). There is a fiberglass layup behind drivers door fender. Still has original fears like air cleaners. At one time the car was outside under a cover and the paint failed. There is bare metal showing but it is surface rusted not rusted through. The trunk areas are excellent. The drivers passenger alloy skin is bad at the bottom. Door bottoms are good. The glass is all factory and in exceptional condition except for some roller marks on drivers window. Hubs and splines are great. One wheel has a broken a spoke. The extra #6 wheel has 8 broken spokes. Drive shaft slider has wear. Missing battery hold down "J" bolts and cross bars. Battery carriers are excellent and the battery top panel does not show acid damage. Wiring harness has been replaced. (tag by heater box). Motor mounts look great. Tires hold air but are old and bald. Spare wheel and extra wheel included. Six wheels total. No tool kit, jack, crank handle or spare tire hold down. The 7th wheel has broken spokes. Right rear has a broken spoke. Comes with a spare electronic Smiths tach, spare voltage regulator and cable for dual battery set up and original factory workshop manual. I have paperwork of ownership history that goes back 33 years.SEE PICTURES. Thank you for your interest. On Nov-02-15 at 06:53:04 PST, seller added the following information: PLEASE NOTE: To follow up the tach question, There is a pad with two taped holes at the left side rear of the block. There is no entry hole for the tach drive gear. It is a flat surface. Also of interest: There is no engine number plate or signs that drive rivets were ever holding one. My conclusion is that this engine is a factory service replacement. I can not substantiate this. Just my opinion. I hope this clarifies things. Thank you all. Spencer
