Up for auction is a truly remarkable 1973 Mercedes Benz 350SL.This all original car was part of an estate for most of it's pampered life. It then spend a decade in the care of an automotive museum.I believe I am the third owner. The museum curator recently spent almost eight thousand with a local Mercedes specialist to go over the whole car, including the entire fuel injection system, oils filters etc. (Records come with car.) Because of the complete care that has been lavished on the brilliant vehicle since day one, this SL350 is one of the best cars on the road!!Starting from the outside, the all original paint finish is unbelievably shiny, with an exceptionally straight body, ( I can't find any apparent dents on the car, though there are some scratches that have been touched up.) The trim is the best I have ever see, in like New condition. Same goes for the bumpers and all the chrome in general, it is immaculate!Factory color coded hub caps, euro bumpers, fog lamps, euro parking lamps really set this apart from all the later US versions with their unsightly bumpers and trim. A truly elegant car! The Interior; again as you would expect from a low mile Museum quality Mercedes is like new. Barely any wear on the original upholstery and plastics. Nothing seems to have ever been apart. All the interior pieces and carpets fit snug together and all are in like new shape. No sun fade, no rips. Everything electrical or otherwise works like it's supposed to.Power windows, power locks, dual zone heating AND Air Conditioning. Ice cold Air. The Clock works! (When have you seen a VDO KIENZLE clock working last?)Perfect door sills, and door jambs with no paint lines or any kind of evidence of repairs.Speaking of which, as you can tell by the original painted surfaces, this car was obviously never wrecked nor did it ever have any rust. All the panels are original, and rust free even the headlight buckets (always rusted in other cars), that are so Perfect in this car THEY HAVE THE FACTORY CHALK MARKS FROM THE MECHANICS IN Sindelfingen, West Germany. (see pic) And now for the best part. The drivetrain.I can say unequivocally and without prejudice, that this is the BEST, TIGHTEST, and SMOOTHEST Mercedes I have ever driven. And I have driven every iteration of the 107 and all it's variants.The motor starts hot or cold instantly and keeps a low, perfect idle all the time. Even with the air on in traffic. (350's and early 450's are notorious for sky high cold start idle.)It comes to temperature straight away, and does not flinch, even on a 100 degree day with the air on full blast in traffic!!This motor is Sooo smooth. Even rumble, quiet, strong and tight. No leaks whatsoever. This car DOES NOT SMOKE. EVER! Hot or cold. The transmission just had it's service at Silverstar and like the motor is leak free, smooth, strong and tight. You can't feel this car shift. Shifts up and down timely and effortlessly. The suspension is in fact the best in the world. No shakes, no squeels, no rattles. Smooth, and soft. Makes the worst roads livable. And then you can still go around turns fast without any effort from your part. The brakes, of course, are perfect. It's a Mercedes. They were also recently serviced. To conclude, this is a TURN KEY, NO EXCUSE, NO RUST, ALL ORIGINAL Mercedes 350SL that is going to appreciate every year as long as you take good care of it like everyone else before you. There is no cap or anything like that. It has no marks or flaws whatsoever with the exception of a tiny crack where it meets the windshield which is not visible.The gap between the Dash and the Windshield even has the original Felt anti squeak insert!All the knobs and switches are original without wear, and they all work.
