Vehicle Detail
1972 Volkswagen Westfalia Pop-top C'mon, Get Happy! Here's the classic bay-window design, featuring Westfalia Camper package, and a pop-top, too! A great find, indeed. This bus had been taken care of and considered a loving member of the family. It's clean inside/out - you'll be impressed. Here's a fine opportunity to get into a vintage VW bus and start living the dream! A classic VW bus is a blast to own, drive, and explore nature with. This Westy is a real crowd-pleaser and it will make you and everyone else in its presence smile. It's ready to go to a loving owner who appreciates these well-engineered and cleverly designed VWs...they're the original SUV / Cross-Over! Over the decades, many VW Buses have unfortunately fallen prey to neglect, accidents, modifications, or were just simply driven into the ground. Not this example though; it's a survivor. After 43 years, this classic VW still rides proudly in the essential Volkswagen tradition of being a simple, well-engineered, and economical vehicle. The styling certainly has aged well, and it's one cool ride. Panels show a nice reflection, and the body is quite straight, taking age and use into consideration. Since it's a "driver," there are flaws here and there, common to these VWs. There are no signs of dents or accidents that I can see. Exterior paint is decent, and in the factory color of white. There is surface rust on the bumpers and miscellaneous other areas. The most notable corrosion is in the typical areas of under the windshield and on the back corner of the roof - driver side. Floors are good, including under the front rubber mat. Dash is simple, yet functional, just like every vintage VW. Gauges and exterior lights work good; so do the signals and horn. Fuel gauge functions, but is temperamental. Interior is very complete and impressively original. Factory rubber mats are all in place. Dash is crisp and clean in appearance. Not abused or altered in any way. You don't come across such originality like this very often. And the condition hasn't been restored, just well-maintained through the years by caring owners. I'm talking about: ** A key buzzer that still sounds when the door is open and key is left in ignition. ** Factory VW am/fm radio is still intact. It powers up and lights, but has static. Could be an antennae issue, as I catch only a few stations. ** Original Westfalia stickers and trim decals are still present. Door panels are in very clean condition. Both doors open/lock easily with key - no issues... Glass is all good; no nicks or cracks. Windows roll up/down, no problem. All dressed up and everywhere to go! Pop-top opens easily, offering walk-around versatility and fresh air when out camping. Tent is older, having a few little tears/rips, but is still very functional. Perhaps it's the original... All the comforts of home: dining table, sink basin, ice box, and plenty of storage space. Wood paneling is '72 VW issue. Flooring is factory vinyl insert. It's quite a cozy setting, indeed. All we need is a bottle of wine and some candles. ** Ice-box is complete and "sanitary." ** Hand pump for sink needs to be replaced as spout is broken off. ** Sink and surrounding areas have been wonderfully maintained and preserved, nonetheless. Bench seat opens and transforms into a comfortable bed within seconds. Cushions are original, clean, supportive, and look great. This very rare third seat or stool is still present and was included with the Volkswagen Campmobile package when the bus was new. Rear bug screen and curtain are neatly tucked away in rear compartment. This bus is a pleasure to own. Previous owner informed me she drove it sparingly, only for special occasions or local weekend getaways, during her ownership the last 15 years. Motor starts easily, and has decent power, though Buses certainly aren't known for speed or torque. Perhaps the carbs could be dialed in for a little more performance and accuracy. To my knowledge, the odometer's reading of 132K is original mileage, as I don't have history of a rebuild. Engine bay is remarkably in factory condition, down to the dual Solex carburetors and original air-cleaner in the center. Tires are newer with plenty of tread. Steering is tight; no shimmies or shaking. Gearbox is fine; no grinding or popping out of any gear. Brakes operate great and the pedal is firm. A classic VW Bus presents a good value and opportunity in the world of collectible automobiles, as they are sought after, especially if it's a Westfalia pop-top, like the one offered here. This one's not perfect, nor has it been restored to show-quality, but this 1972 "survivor" is a great weekend driver that shows a lot of promise and has been cared for. It’s just right for someone who’s always fantasized about owning a vintage VW Bus, or sold theirs years ago and has regretted it ever since. This tangible investment is safer than the stock market and is something your family & friends can enjoy, again and again. Why not mix business with pleasure? This 1972 Volkswagen bus is being advertised in a Buy it Now, at $12,750 format. There is no auction, where missing out on a good deal in the last 15 seconds is a tragedy we all know too well. No, this vintage camper is being offered For Sale right now, at a disclosed price, so don't let it get away! As a side bar, see what Europe's BBC news had to say about the current VW Bus Popularity Trend in an article. It'll make you feel good.
