Vehicle Detail
Totally awesome 1968 ford F-250 highboy custom cab. 390, power steering, power disc brakes, 4x4, 4 speed. I acquired this truck from the second owner, who only had it for about a month or so, till his better half told him it needed to go. This truck spent 99.99% of its life on a chicken farm in red bluff California. This thing is amazingly straight, and the body is so lacking in any rust, its hard to believe. Doors, hood and tailgate all shut tight and line up nicely. The only rust i can mention was in the front floors and the bed floor is a bit rough, but still totally solid and usable. I wanted to restore this truck while i drove it, so i temporarily repaired the few small holes in the floor with bondo and coated it with truck bed liner, turned out really nice looking, but of course they should be repaired with metal in the future. The floors are still extremely solid in the foot well areas, as the rust was more oriented towards the sides of the seat than anywhere else. Like i said before, the body is 100% rust free, no signs of any bubbling, cancer, nothing. Seems to have had 1 very old repaint, but the original owner said the truck had been blue since he bought it in 1968, so not sure where the yellow showing through came from. That being said, the patina on this truck is great, my plan was to leave it alone and focus on the mechanicals. Truck has a 390, not sure if its original, but it was installed at the first owners request, as he referred to the 360 as a "dog". It was said to have been rebuilt about 15,000 miles ago. Truck starts right up with a few pumps and the choke set and runs strong and quiet, no smoke at all. Engine is a bit cold blooded, but once warmed up, performs great with plenty of power. Clutch is good and the 4 speed shifts smooth with no grinding or popping out of gear. 4wd works great. This truck is also equipped with power steering and power disc brakes off of a 70's f250. Brakes work excellent and the power steering really makes the big truck a pleasure to drive. The ride quality in this rig is great, nice and tight, but surprisingly smooth for a truck of this vintage. All three gas tanks are in place, with the in-cab tank and drivers side saddle tank being usable, the passenger saddle tank hasn't had gas in it in many years and should be cleaned out before usage. heater works on all settings. Within the past 100 miles the truck has had all front end components and prop shafts greased, new tires on the 16'' painted steel rims, oil changed, new exhaust from the Y junction back, radiator flushed, carb and timing dialed in, new headliner, new arm rest pads, dome light lense, door seals, seat cover, steering wheel and pad, headlight switch, in cab gas tank filler neck and grommet, and biggest of all, the rear end and posi were completely rebuilt due to a howling sound, have receipt for that. The only issues I can point out are the dash gauges and speedometer dont function, but all the auxiliary gauges under the dash work accurately, but there is no gas gauge. The truck is showing 91,xxx miles, but since the odometer isnt working, thats no longer accurate, but the original owner said it most likely has around 100,000. Overall this is a great looking, running and driving highboy that can be used immediately and has great character and style, totally lovable truck. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have, and if you would like any specific information or additional pictures, i would be happy to provide those as well. Thanks for looking and happy bidding. On Sep-09-15 at 12:12:11 PDT, seller added the following information: So a very helpful e-bay member was nice enough to decode the vin tag for me. The truck is indeed a factory 390, built at the san jose plant in august of 1968. Original color was chrome yellow, dana 60 rear with 3.73 gears. Truck is also for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the auction at any time.
