The Y Type was designed by MG in 1939, but because of the war effort, production did not begin until 1947. Approximately 8000 units were built between 1947-1953. The body was the first MG with an all steel body. The YA has the 1250 XPAG 4-cyl engine with a single SU carb producing 46 HP, joined to a 4 speed synchro (on 2-4) gearbox, independent front suspension, rack and pinion steering. The car was well appointed and has a tilt windscreen, adjustable steering column, suicide doors, sunroof, 4 wheel hydraulic jacking system, and side swinging trafficator turn signals. All systems in the car, except the electric clock, operate as intended. This vehicle is the essence of a classic British saloon.
